As Mayor and Mayoress of Wisbech this is the best year of

our lives in our lovely town of Wisbech.

At the Mayor making on Friday May 15th

the council chamber was filled to

capacity with visitors from Arles , including Mme Francoise Rouzies who was

representing the Mayor of Arles. Since then we have visited Arles with members of

our Arles Twinning Club to meet up again with Francoise and the Mayor, Herve

Schiavetti to commemorate the 50th

Anniversary of the Twinning.

What has been great for this town, are the events such as The Brinks Festival, Love

your local Market, The Wisbech Festival, The Rock Festival, The Rose Fair and The

Arles Festival (just to mention a few) not forgetting the recent Halloween Day,

which was a glorious event. We are now looking forward to the Christmas Lights

Switch on and the Christmas Fayre.

We have been honoured to be invited to attend very many enjoyable and

significant events in Wisbech and many other towns. In the Business Awards

event held at March in October, I was delighted to receive on behalf of the town,

the ‘Pride of the Fens’ Award, which recognises the town that has done most to

promote enterprise and the community with the determination of its civic

leaders.

We are particularly pleased for our past MP Malcolm Moss and the British Legion

Riders to have been awarded Freedom of the Town. The Riders have vowed to

visit the graves of the 876 men who served in the Cambridgeshire Regiment and

lost their lives in WW1.

I am looking forward to the plans and ambitions of Wisbech2020 vision moving

forward, with possibilities of the direct rail line to Cambridge and Peterborough,

more tourism attractions; and also the improvements to the High Street from the

Heritage Lottery bid.

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and look forward to

successful and enjoyable events in 2016
