ROCK CHOIR COMES TO WISBECH

Do you sing in the shower or croon along to the car radio, yet have never had the confidence or opportunity to take it any further? Now you can!

Singing sensation Rock Choir is opening in Wisbech from Tuesday 17th September, and anyone interested in joining can try a free 90-minute taster session, from 8pm-9.30pm at Queen Mary Centre, Queens Road, Wisbech, PE13 2PE. There are no auditions and no requirements to read music, or have any previous singing experience. Just turn up and join in! Rock Choir is the UK's largest contemporary choir, with more than 16,000 members in over 250 local communities. It was started in 2005 by award-winning singer and musician Caroline Redman Lusher, who wanted to create a modern, contemporary choir for people who love to sing. Rock Choir members attend fun, weekly sessions where they learn specially arranged pop and chart songs, taught by their highly trained choir leader. Wisbech Rock Choir Leader is Mike Tandy, and he can’t wait to get started.

To book your FREE taster session, or to find out more about Rock Choir, visit www.rockchoir.com or telephone 01252 714 276

Cambridgeshire Mencap says Thank You with Tea and Scones

Celebrating National Volunteers Week 2013

The Plate & Porter Restaurant, March was the setting for Cambridgeshire Mencap’s volunteer’s week celebrations

Cambridgeshire Mencap supports many local adults with a learning disability in the Fenland area in a variety of ways; a one to one befriending scheme, group activities including zumba, picnics, bingo and crafts. Cambridgeshire Mencap also supports many local people through its Artworks service. The local charities services simply wouldn’t be possible without the kindness, commitment and enthusiasm of so many wonderful volunteers. Lesley Parkinson, Volunteer Befriender said “I really enjoyed the afternoon tea; it was lovely to meet other volunteers and chat about what they are doing. I love meeting the person I befriend and knowing that I am helping her to enjoy social activities that simply wouldn’t be possible otherwise. To anyone thinking about volunteering I would say it is so rewarding to see the difference you can make to someone whilst having a great time, so please get in touch.” Cambridgeshire Mencap is always looking for new volunteers to get involved with the organisation in various ways including through its one to one befriending scheme, at Artworks, at monthly events, with fundraising and even helping in the office. If you would like to find out more about volunteering please contact: Suzanne Lombardo - 87 High Street March Cambridgeshire PE15 9LB 01354 651166 [email protected]

More Choice in Social Care

Social care is provided to people who have been assessed as having substantial

or critical support needs with personal care, getting meals, managing

medication and staying safe. If you need social care the County Council will arrange your care for you, but they now have a duty to offer and provide Direct Payments. Direct Payments are an alternative way of getting the care and support you need. They are cash payments made directly into a Direct Payment bank account so that you can use the money to make your own social care arrangements. With a Direct Payment you have more choice, control and independence about how your care is organised. If you would like to find out more about Direct Payments visit the Your Life, Your Choice website at: www.yourlifeyourchoice.org.uk, pick up a leaflet from your library, phone adult social care enquiries on 0345 045 5202, or contact the Cambridgeshire Direct Payment Support Service on 0845 6000 684.
