Only eight-minutes drive from the M6, discover the beautiful village of Scorton - home to the enigmatically titled Wirisdal Skar.

Opposite the quaint village hall and nestled behind a rustic stone wall, spy the striking slate chimney of Wirisdal Skar with its echoes of Lake District charm. Follow the sweeping driveway around to the house at the top where you have plenty of space to park.

You can also slip through the hidden pathway up the stone steps beneath the delicate pink blossoms of the late-flowering foliage - an ideal time saver when returning home with the groceries on foot if the weather breaks!

A detached double garage lies before you, complete with mezzanine floor, ready to stow away your car and all your extraneous paraphernalia leaving your home clutter free.

Up another Lakeland-style stone step and through a set of double grey-painted outward-opening doors and you emerge into your bright and inviting entrance hall.

And what a welcome it is. So bright and airy due to the multi-paned front window and open staircase, this entrance hall is too enticing to exist purely as an atrium. Allow yourself to be drawn to the window seat and admire the view, light some candles around the decorative stonework and immerse yourself in the next chapter of your book. Your entrance hall, your reading room or perhaps an extra dining space? A versatile space to be sure.

Formerly an open fireplace that has been transformed into a central feature, why not open it up once more for that open-plan contemporary lifestyle flow?

Entrance Hall or Dining Room

WELCOME HOME…

Follow the stream of natural light through the glass-paned door and into the main living room. Once more, a deep set window seat provides the perfect perch from which to pause and spy the birds flitting about the branches below, so elevated is this spot.

Nestled into the slate chimney breast is your gas-fuelled fire; a simple flick of the switch to the right will fill this lounge with a warming glow. Opposite this feature fireplace, a fur ther window invites more daylight in, ably assisted by the chandelier drop lighting above. Unfolding back, discover space for your sofa and other occasional furniture in this comfortable living room, before arriving at the boldly bright French doors. Why not enjoy breakfast out here on your sunny south-facing patio?

COSY LIVING

Also leading off the entrance hall, discover your retro-chic kitchen. Bedecked in very vintage mustard units, this traditionally-styled, carefully kempt kitchen is a blank slate awaiting the dream kitchen of your choosing.

Hardwearing wooden flooring lies underfoot and an integrated oven and stainless steel sink adorn the sides. Yet it is the simply stunning views from the window out over the garden to the bench and glossy autumnal mane of the distant horse chestnut tree that really catch the eye. This kitchen is so cheerful and light you may be tempted to leave the ‘kitsch’-in and embark upon a full-on 80s revival!

Passing beneath the curve of an archway, emerge into a separate breakfast room. Light and airy, take a pew on the built-in bench beneath the window to help the kids with their homework at the dining table. Leave them here under your watchful eye as you prepare dinner - that’s the beauty of an open-plan home!

Beyond, discover your handy, rustic red-quarry tiled utility room. With units and space for all your white goods, there is also a vast storage cupboard ideal for coats and wellington boots. You have another back door from here, but firstly, follow us. We have a surprise for you…

WHAT’S COOKING?

Opportunity won’t need to knock here in your breath-taking garden-living room; the potential is plain to see.

Ornate wooden shelves decorate the internal wall, whilst elegant up-lighting sconces complement the spotlighting in the ceiling. Polished to perfection wooden flooring leads your path to the separate entrance porch at the far end of this room - an added bonus – but look to the right for the real pièce de résistance.

A four-paned picture window propels your garden onto the big screen. Forget Attenborough; direct your own Planet Earth spinoff from the comfort of your own comfy director’s chair. The views here simply cannot be overstated. The dilemma is not how to use this room, it is how to decide how to use this room!

Gifted with a tiled and tidy en-suite wet-room, why not make this room the ultimate master suite? With such resplendent garden views greeting you in the morning, you might think you’re still dreaming!

Its accessible wet room and external access point also make this space the perfect annex for an elderly relative or family member with mobility needs.

THE OPPORTUNITY ROOM

Downstairs Wetroom

Children will love the easy access in and out of the garden in summer months, and its removed position from the main living room means the kids could enjoy this as their play room whilst you enjoy peace and tranquillity in your end of the house.

Or if it is the peace and tranquillity and innate calm of this light, bright inside-out room that you adore, why not create your own yoga studio? With views like this you’ll find your inner zen in no time.

There is a truly calming feel to this room, that has to be experienced to be appreciated, and the benefits of working from here should not be overlooked. Whether utilising this branch of the home as an office where you invite clients, or as a private practice for beauty therapy or physiotherapy, the additional bathroom is a sure-fire winner.

Why not earn a little supplemental income by letting this space as an Air BnB room? Scorton is a popular village amongst walkers and cyclists - and where better than Wirisdal Skar’s sublime garden-view room to round off a delightful day amidst nature? The separate entrance means you needn’t even know they are there. The possibilities are endless!

Returning to the hospitable entrance, make your way up the stairs, and straight ahead into your master-suite.

Calming in cooling blue tones, this bedroom is the ideal place to unwind and relax at the end of a long day. Light, literally, flows through - entering from the broad front-facing window before being met at the apex of the room by light sluicing through its mirror image counterpart on the rear wall.

From the front look out over elevated views of Scor ton, set beneath sapphire skies and the occasional scudding cotton-ball cloud. It doesn’t get much better than this. To the rear, its twin offers glimpses out over the beautiful foliage of the back garden. Bliss.

Once you draw your gaze from the great outdoors, take in the other fabulous features of this room. Tasteful white built in wardrobes sit snug against the wall, whilst a spick and span shower room demonstrates great economy of space with built in under-sink storage.

Not far to go to discover your toilet - it is neatly housed just next door - whilst the family bathroom lies fur ther along the hallway, tiled and pristine. On the right hand side, perfectly fitted pine cupboards secrete your heating supplies and offer great storage space for all your towels and bedding.

THE MAGICAL MASTER

Master EnSuite

Opposite, discover your dreamy single bedroom. Looking down onto the quaint village hall and with its own walk-in storage space, could this be the perfect bedroom for a child with more toys than space to tidy them?

Next door awaits another light and bright bedroom. The second largest bedroom at Wirisdal Skar, this elegant green-toned room can happily house a double bed and bathes in light afforded by one voluminous window, with an additional wink of light from the window to the side. This home makes the most of its naturally elevated position and never leaves you in the dark.

Stash your clothes in the fitted wardrobes, there is even in-built shelving beneath the natural slope of the dormer to one side of the ceiling. Such a helpful home.

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade, as the saying goes. We have the tastiest treat of a room to finish your tour of Wirisdal Skar.

On to the lemon room, whimsically pretty with its very own sink and twin windows. A room comfortably elegant in its single stature, this could make the perfect guest bedroom with its dreamy garden views. Or perhaps, with its built in storage and light-streaming windows you can envision its future as a craft room?

While you decide, allow us to take a turn with you about Wirisdal Skar’s delightful garden; well-loved and tended, the hard work here has been done for you.

Enveloped in every hue of variegated green, this garden is a pleasure to observe from the house, but designed to enjoy at first hand.

South-facing and screened privately off from its neighbours through a guard of tall trees, enjoy summer barbecues and gatherings with all the family out here.

Open the patio doors from the living room on those balmy evenings for a spot of fresh air while you have a night cap. From this patio area outside the doors, a walled lower paved area extends past the garden room and leads to your double garage.

Steps up from your patio lead to a pretty birdbath and fronded shrubs, in an array of delicate colours.

To the rear, a long row of trees in the distance provide shelter and privacy without stealing your light. Children can enjoy the charms of the overhanging conker tree for that nostalgic autumnal touch.

PEACEFUL & PRIVATE

Scorton is a friendly and historic village not far from Garstang. Once home to a great cotton mill in the Victorian era, Scorton now enjoys a more laid back pace of life.

Skirting the fringe of the Forest of Bowland, why not explore Nicky Nook, a delightful little hill whose views defy its slight height?

With the M6 in minutes’ reach, you have easy access to Lancaster and Garstang for schools and supermarkets (Garstang boasts both an Aldi and a Booths).

Be sure to pay a visit to Scorton Bikes and Barrows Festival, held this year on May bank holiday weekend. A family affair, look out for decorated wheelbarrows, barbershop quartets, morris dancers, Rose Queen processions and all the best of English country fair traditions.

For dining out, try Stout’s Bar at The Priory, or The Barn garden centre with its restaurant and café, while the Apple Store, we are told, boasts the best cakes around!

There’s lots going on for all the family in Scorton; the community centre offers dance classes and other pursuits for children.

If you need space for all the family, in a fun and friendly location, then it’s time to see the light! Come along and add your finishing touch to the homely Wirisdal Skar.
