As a non-profit, we rely on our supporters and their faith in the organization to keep camp strong and moving forward. I want to personally thank each and every one of you for believing in O-AT-KA. Summer will be here before you know it. For now, we move full steam ahead to build our programs, make improvements, hire staff, complete registrations for our current families; and recruit new campers into the O-AT-KA family. If you know of a family that would be a good fit for O-AT-KA, I’d love to hear from you: [email protected]. Wishing you a wonderful 2018, and we hope to see you on the shores of Sebago soon! Speaking of enthusiasm, in these pages you will see our annual report to thank the donors that believe in O-AT-KA, continue to keep camp at the forefront

of their philanthropic priorities, and show their own enthusiasm for camp by their generous gifts. The goodwill that our donors provide allows the staff to keep the legacy of O-AT-KA alive. Green & Grey Recap

On Saturday, November 18 we celebrated 20 years of our beloved Dennen Week program at the annual Green & Grey event in Woburn, MA. The evening began with a cocktail reception and silent auction with prizes that included Bruins and Celtics tickets, beautifully handmade cutting boards, shaker boxes and various other crafts, donated memorabilia, and weekend getaways at Migis Lodge on Sebago Lake and the Bethel Inn.

Following the auction, our guests gathered for a delicious buffet dinner with remarks from Executive Director Heather Plati; Board member Rufus Ward; Counselor Cole MacLeod; and Board President John Hall. Each one of them shared gratitude and stories of successful camperships, the generosity of staff in time, treasure and talent; and what O-AT-KA and the Dennen Week program, has meant to them. The evenings remarks wrapped up with

an amazing photo slideshow made by Cal Kendall and highlighted the two decades of Dennen Week.

The event was another huge success and $23,000 was raised for summer camperships and Dennen Week. We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone that attended, donated, and supported the event. It was a wonderful evening and the spirit of giving was felt by all!

O-AT-KA Awarded Matching Grant for Junior Unit Improvements

O-AT-KA Around the World

The primary focus will be the Junior Unit and surrounding areas, as this area is in desperate need of attention. The Portland Water District (PWD) determined erosion issues start in this area and makes its way down to the lake.

Camp O-AT-KA is excited to announce that we are the recipient of a $12,000 matching grant from the PWD. The criteria for the grant was that camp

would match the grant dollar-to-dollar for a total of $24,000 to be spent on the project. Starting in Spring 2018, O-AT-KA and the PWD will work together to improve erosion control, footpaths, traffic patterns, address run-off from the property to Sebago Lake, and enhance the beauty of our campus. The primary focus will be the Junior Unit and surrounding areas; as this area is in desperate need of attention and the

PWD determined a lot of camp’s run-off starts in this area and makes it way down to the lake.

Environmental architects from PWD are currently working on plans and the hope is to start modifications in the Spring and finish during work weekend. A large part of both the PWD and O-AT-KA missions are teaching sustainability and environmental protection so an education component will be done by the PWD for our campers this summer.

Our funds needed to be raised by Jan 1, 2018. Alumni, parents and friends answered the call to action that kicked off on Giving Tuesday, November 29th, and extended throughout the “Season of Giving’ until the end of the calendar year on December 31. Thank you to all that helped reach the goal and made it possible to receive this wonderful matching gift!

We are excited to be kicking off a new Camper & Family Ambassador Program in 2018! The Camper Ambassador Program is an outreach program to empower current campers to help recruit new campers and raise awareness about camp within our communities. In order for O-AT-KA to successfully recruit, we need our campers families to actively show their commitment and passion for camp.

There will be some fun perks to being a camper ambassador - including special assignments for opening and visiting day, cool ambassador swag, and meetings with the administration to brainstorm ideas and be creative. But most importantly, this program will give our camper ambassadors a chance to be in a unique leadership role within the camp community! We will be finalizing a handbook and sending more

information about the program. In the meantime, we are looking for our first excited and eager volunteers! There are limited spots available per Unit and participation is up to the discretion of the leadership team. If you are interested in becoming an ambassador or would like more information, please e-mail Annie Bowe at [email protected].

One of the biggest strengths of O-AT-KA is our strong and dedicated alumni network. This is a huge part of our camp community and the passion for camp and connection with one another is something we want to demonstrate to our families.

We are seeking alumni ambassadors to help during the two most critical days of our summer schedule: OPENING DAY! This is about first impressions and making everyone feel welcome and at home. Our staff have specific assignments on these days and it would be wonderful to have alumni there to assist with welcoming guests, giving directions, help with parking, making conversation as people wait for Infirmary checks, and simply be a friendly and helpful face during what can be an anxious time.

Dates we need you:

First Session – Sunday, June 24

Second Session – Sunday, July 22
