What does the Chapman
Cultural Center mean to you?Perhaps you have enjoyed a recent performance, such
as the Spartanburg Little Theatre’s incredible Hello
Dolly in September. Or you are reading this after
having experienced one of the multifaceted exhibitions
in the History Museum, Artists’ Guild Gallery, or in
the Spartanburg Art Museum. Perhaps your child or
grandchild can’t stop talking about what he or she saw
or learned about last week in the Spartanburg Science
Center. Or maybe you are discovering your own hidden
talents through a dance class or an art class.
The Arts Partnership’s Annual Campaign provides the resources that make all
this possible every year. We need your support this and every season so that the
organizations we help fund may continue to bring you the programs and services you
have come to expect and enjoy. Please use the attached envelope to demonstrate your
enthusiasm for and belief in the value of arts, science, and history in our community.
Your gift is an investment in the heart and soul of Spartanburg!
H. Perry MixterPresident & COO
The Arts Partnership of Greater Spartanburg
P.S. Be sure to join us for a very special evening on Friday, Nov. 19, when Spartanburg’s own Marshall Chapman returns home for a concert benefitting the Chapman Cultural Center. Tickets are $25 or $45 for a BBQ dinner and the show. Don’t miss it!

Holiday Camps!
The Science Center will be conducting its annual Christmas Camps on December 20th – 23rd and the following week from the 27th – 30th. Morning camps for both weeks begin at 9:30 and end at 12:00. Afternoon camps begin at 1:00 and end at 4:00. All camps accommodate children ages 6 – 11. Registration forms can be found on our website*. The subjects for this year’s camps are:
Chemistry, Physics, and Starlab - Children will have an opportunity to view the stars of the winter skies, make rainbows, hold chemistry experiments, and learn about electricity in this camp. 9:30 – 12:00. $70. December 20th – 23rd.
Dinosaurs, Fossils, and Mammals of the Ice Age – Many new ideas about the lives of dinosaurs have recently emerged. There have also been new discoveries regarding the great extinction of large mammals during the last Ice Age. This camp will explore what drove these gigantic beasts to extinction, and how dinosaurs like T. Rex actually looked when they walked the Earth millions of years ago. 1:00 – 4:00. $80 December 20th – 23rd.
Marine Biology – This camp will focus on living and extinct seas creatures ranging from South Carolina’s state reptile, the Loggerhead Sea Turtle, to prehistoric behemoths such as the Plesiosaurs and Megalodon. We will examine fossils and skeletal remains of these and other sea creatures and explore the impact man has had on marine life. 9:30 – 12:00. $70. December 27th – 30th.
Reptiles – This camp will focus on native and nonnative species of snakes, turtles, lizards and alligators. Children will learn how to identify venomous and non-venomous snakes, the behavior and biology of different reptiles, and what we as humans can do to be better stewards of the environment we share with these animals. 1:00 – 4:00. $80 December 27h – 30th.
Reptile Show!
On November the 6th, amateur herpetologist Terry Powell will be conducting an exotic reptile show, featuring animals from his personal collection. Come join us and get a closer look at a Tokay’s Gecko, Armadillo Lizard, Bearded Dragon and more! Admission for this show is normally priced. Kids under 5 are free.
*Contact the Science Center at (864) 583-2777 or email us at [email protected]. Registration forms for our Holiday Camps can be downloaded via our website www.spartanburgsciencecenter.org. In Memory
Jeanne Smith Harley1931-2010
The Arts Partnership of Greater
Spartanburg, Chapman Cultural
Center, and all those who love the
arts celebrate the memory of Jeanne
Smith Harley, a supporter of the
arts in Spartanburg for many years.
Among her many accomplishments,
Mrs. Harley was president of the
Arts Council in 1984. In 1991, she
was the chairperson for the annual
membership campaign. And, in
1993 was the chairperson for the
25th Silver Anniversary of the Arts
Council. We are forever indebted to
her leadership and devotion to the
arts.
