Skating Level Definitions:Tots/Pre-Alpha: Students learn the two foot glide, forward and backward swizzles, one foot glide, backward wiggle.Alpha: Passed Tots/Pre-Alpha or equivalent. Students learn forward stroking, forward cross-overs on right and left, and one foot snowplow stop.Beta: Passed Alpha or equivalent. Students learn backward stroking, backward crossovers and t-stops on right and left.Gamma: Passed Beta or equiva-lent. Students learn forward outside 3-turn on right and left, Mohawk combination on right and left, and hockey stop.Delta: Passed Gamma or equiva-lent. New Hope Skating SchoolNew Hope Skating School classes are based on the Ice Skating Institute’s (ISI) recreational ice skating program for ice skaters three years of age and older. Pre-Alpha, Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta are all skill levels of the testing program. Classes are taught by Dawn Landon and her fine staff. Participants will need their own skates with guards. Tots are encouraged to wear helmets. Gymnastics Level DefinitionsBeginner: Little or no gymnastics experience.Intermediate: For those who have mastered hands on/feet on (vault); Pullover and back hip circle (bars); All walks and some jumps with correct technique (beam); Perfect cartwheel, roundoff, handstand, forward roll (floor).Advanced: For those who have mastered straddle over (vault); Long hang pullover (bars); Forward roll, front handspring dismount (beam); Back walkover (floor).Advanced 2: For those who have mastered front handspring (vault); Fly-away, kip on low bar (bars); Back walkover, hands-free dis-mount (beam); Roundoff to back handspring (floor).

Rink Rat HockeySpend the best months of winter play-ing hockey outdoors! This is a co-rec program for boys and girls ages 7-12. The program consists of two pre-sea-son practices and eight instructional games every Friday evening and late Sunday afternoon from January 3- February 7. Volunteer coaches instruct and officiate all games. There will be no goalies, just goal covers. Games are played in New Hope and sur-rounding communities. Games will be rescheduled in the event of cancella-tions (weather permitting). Participants must provide their own transportation and equipment (hockey skates, stick, helmet with mask, mouth guard, shin pads, hockey gloves, elbow pads and protective cup if applicable). Schedules will be mailed the week of December 23. League jersey and participation award will be given. Tumbling TotsThis is a great program to start your pre-schooler on their way to develop-ing basic gymnastics and tumbling skills. The kids, with the help of a parent and our gymnastics staff, will develop gross motor skills through tumbling, get an introduction to the various pieces of gymnastics equip-ment, and have lots of fun and games. Revolutionary Sports Hockey FundamentalsThis parent/child, beginner hockey program is a non-competitive, intro-ductory hockey and movement skills program for parents to help their little player become more comfortable with skating and using a stick. A unique curriculum was developed for age-appropriate progression of skills while having fun learning the sport. Yoga and Mindful MovementYoga is for everybody! Boys and girls ages 3-6, will have fun exploring yoga poses and playing group games that will warm, energize, and develop strength, flexibility, and fitness. Each class will start and end with a stillness or calming activity. Children will learn how to tune into their bodies, enhance their imagination, and move their bod-ies in a non-competitive environment. Studies have shown that children that practice yoga have increased concen-tration, less behavior outbursts, and improved coping skills. Yoga mats are available to use. Instructor: Cindy Mar-golis. Archery Youth ages 8-15, learn the basics of archery in this fun class. All levels are invited to partici-pate. Beginners will learn the basics including safe range practices and inter-mediate/advanced students will review the basics and learn more advanced skills. FencingYouth ages 6-12 will learn real fenc-ing skills while having fun in this class provided by MN Sword Play. The class will teach the fundamentals of fenc-ing with an emphasis on skill building, concentration, self discipline and fun. These classes are designed to enhance motor skill, social and perceptual growth by teaching safe, age appro-priate foil fencing skills to each child. All equipment is provided. Register by March 31. Amazing AthletesPreschoolers ages 3-6, this is the per-fect class to get moving and learn new sports and skills. Amazing Athletes gives every child the chance to learn the fundamentals of many different sports along with hand-eye coordination, gross motor skills and cognitive de-velopment. These sampler classes will include the following sports rotating every week: baseball, basketball, vol-leyball, football, golf, soccer, lacrosse, hockey, and tennis. Registration dead-line is one week prior to each session. “Empty Bowls”- An Expression of CommunityThis will be a two part class and a part of Robbinsdale Area School District’s Empty Bowl project. Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger. The basic premise is simple: potters and oth-ers work with the community to create handcrafted bowls. In the first class you’ll have fun while mak-ing one bowl to keep for yourself and one to donate to the Empty Bowls program. Different tech-niques will be used to hand build bowls with texture and designs. In the second class you’ll come back to glaze your bowl. Using bright and

H.O.M.E.H.O.M.E. provides affordable in-home services to residents age 60+ who live independently but need assistance to maintain their home. The Program serves clients who are not financially able to pay the full cost of the mainte-nance services, as well as frail older adults who require services designed to meet their needs. The H.O.M.E. program can help with the following services: inte-rior/exterior painting, door and window repair, energy-related improvements, minor plumbing and electrical work, seasonal yard work, general cleaning and gro-cery shopping. Funds AvailableFunds are available for New Hope families who need assistance with registration fees in order for their child or teen to participate in programs sponsored by the New Hope Parks and Recreation Department. Five Cities Discontinued Five Cities Transportation had to discontinue bus transportation for residents age 60 plus on No-vember 13. Five Cities has had a contract with PRISM Express to provide the buses for its service. Recently, PRISM announced that it is discontinuing its transportation services due to financial issues. The Five Cities member communi-ties are exploring other options and plans to determine by the end of the year whether Five Cities will be able to resume services. The Lincoln Assassination – February 19What really hap-pened on Good Friday, April 14, 1865? David Jones has researched the details surrounding the assassination of Abraham Lincoln at the Ford Theater by John Wilkes Booth and presents his findings in an inter-esting, informative way. Early Minnesota Twins Announcers – March 19 Twins fans in the 1960s were fortu-nate to have a top-notch broadcast crew on television and radio in Ray Scott, Herb Carneal, and Halsey Hall. Scott was and remains a nationally renowned broadcaster. Carneal spent more than 40 seasons on the air with the Twins. Hall is one of the most re-membered and beloved personalities in the history of Minnesota broadcast-ing. A true character, Halsey Hall com-bined his knowledge of sports with an entertaining manner. This presenta-tion will cover the three great Twins announcers of the 1960s and serve as a preview to the upcoming Twins season. Our speaker is Stew Thorn-ley, author and official score keeper for the Minnesota Twins. Register by March 14.

Glass Blowing Demonstration and Melting Pot – February 13This unique trip begins at the Artisan Industrial Park in Minneapolis. We’ll watch as artisans transform raw prod-ucts into magnificent pieces using blazing furnaces. After the demonstra-tion, visit the Glass Gift Gallery that showcases glasswork by dozens of artists from the Center for Glass Arts. Tapestry and Angels – March 27This trip kicks off as we arrive at the Plymouth Congregational Church. Here we’ll learn about the four sea-sonal embroideries. A docent will guide us, explain the project, and then we’ll watch a video showcasing these unique embroideries that have been featured in Smithsonian and Needle Arts magazines. After our tour at the church, we head to Jax Café for a light lunch featuring strawberry spinach salad topped with grilled chicken breast, onion, almonds, brie, all tossed in a sesame honey vinaigrette. After lunch we head to the Basilica of Saint Mary Catholic Church. Here we’ll join a tour guide and explore this wonderful interior that boasts 675 angels! Community Gyms The New Hope Community Gyms, located on the north side of Cooper High School, has two full-size basket-ball courts available for recreational and athletic activities. Whether you’re looking for a place to hold your youth basketball team practice, a weekend tournament or maybe even to host a birthday party, we have just the place for you.
