Special Events

Indoor TriathlonSaturday, February 239:30am at the Torigian YMCA

Race Fee:

$34 through January 31$39 beginning February 1

Team Fee:

At your designated start time, you will begin with a 10 minute swim in our indoor pool, shift gears and spend the next 30 minutes cycling on one of our bikes and then race toward the finish line with 20 minutes on the treadmill. Participants will be allowed time to safely change from the pool to cycling and to move from cycling to a treadmill. The first wave will start at 9:30am and a new wave will start every 15 minutes. All participants must be 14 years or older.

Scoring

Race volunteers will record distances covered during the swim, bike and run. Points will be awarded based on your finish in each event.

Stage 1This class is for the child who has little or no experience. Increases comfort with underwater exploration and introduces basic self-rescue skills performed with assistance.

Stage 2Swimmers must swim 5 feet without assistance or floatation and fully submerge their face in the water to enter this class. Encourages for-ward movement in water and basic self-rescue skills performed independently.

Stage 5Swimmers must be able to swim the entire length of the pool with proficient front crawl and backstroke and tread water for 1 minute without becoming exhausted to enter this class. Please bring goggles.

Stage 6Swimmers must be able to swim 200 yards continuously with proficient front crawl and backstroke, with rudimentary breast stroke, butterfly stroke and tread water for 2 minutes to enter this class. Please bring goggles.

Specialty Aquatics Swim Classes

Teen Beginner Swim Class30 Minutes | Ages 11+F: $74 M: $126 N: $183

A class for teens who are beginner swimers or who have never had lessons. Improve confidence, comfort, teach floating, horizontal swimming skills in freestyle and backstroke.

Beginner Springboard Diving 60 MinutesF: $86 M: $137 N: $199

Learn the basics of competitive diving. Students will practice back jumps in straight position, pike and tuck body positions, and forward and back dives. Divers must be able to pass the deep end swim test and do a forward dive from the side of the pool.

Advanced Springboard Diving 60 MinutesF: $86 M: $137 N: $199

A class for divers who have been promoted from the beginner class or high school divers who want to perfect their advanced skills. Instructor recommendation is required.

Adaptive Swim Academy 30 MinutesF: $126 M: $140 N: $180

This class provides basic swim skills and teach-es essential water safety techniques with the needs of each individual. Participant must begin the session accompanied by an adult in the wa-ter. This course is taught by special education teacher and Adaptive Aquatics Specialist Rachel Gregory M. Ed.

Swim Evaluations Swim Testing

Adult Swim

Not sure what stage to sign your child up for? Come in for a swim evaluation. Please contact Jose Medina, Aquatics Director, at [email protected] to make an appointment. Swim evaluations will take place on Saturdays from 12:30pm to 2:30pm.

All swimmers under 18 need to be swim tested in order to use the deep end of the pool. Swim test includes swimming 25 yards in a horizontal position, jumping into deep water, and treading water for 30 seconds. Swimmers who do not pass or choose not to take it must remain in the shallow end. Children under 10 years of age or shorter than 50 inches must wear a U.S. Coast Guard personal flotation device (PFD). Swimmers who are in the pool with parents at arm’s length may be excused of using a PFD. Anyone under the age of 7, regardless of ability, must be within arm’s reach of an adult at all times. Lifeguards have the right to retest swimmers.

Adult Swim Training Club75 Minutes | Ages 17+M: $125 N: $180

For beginner and advanced swimmers seeking to improve their technique and overall fitness. This two days per week training program will provide you with new and challenging workouts to improve stroke technique, endurance, speed, and strength.

Adult Beginner Swim Lessons30 Minutes | Ages 17+M: $74 N: $109

This is the place to start for adults who don’t have a lot of prior swimming experience. Participants will become more confident in the water and will learn the fundamentals of swimming and aquatic safety.

Adult Swim Stroke Development30 Minutes | Ages 17+M: $74 N: $109

Develop basic swim strokes and use swimming as a source of fitness. It is recommended that participants have taken beginner swim lessons before or have prior experience. Participants should be able to swim at minimum 1 length of the pool.

Piranhas Swim TeamThe Piranhas swim team is for swimmers ages 6-18. The Piranhas Fall team practices from September through February. There are multiple practices a week in the afternoon. For more information, contact: Jose Medina at [email protected].

A swim class specifically designed for swim-mers who wish to join a swim team in the fu-ture. Taught by experienced aquatic instructors with a competitive swim background. Little Piranhas will prepare children for the swim team through stroke drills, endurance sets, flip turns, and race starts. For those of Youth Level 5 and 6 ability who are looking for a more competitive next step.

Lifeguard Certification Course Ages 15+ | M:$300 N:$425

Students will be trained in the national-ly recognized Red Cross Lifeguard Course including CPR, First Aid, and AED. Certification is determined by successful completion of only blended learning, in person skill sessions, and a comprehensive written exam and water test. Swimming skills are a prerequisite and attendance in all classes is mandatory. Partici-pants must be at least 15 years old by the final day of class. Enhance Fitness is geared toward older adults of all fitness levels. If you have a chronic condition, such as arthritis, you may be able to gain more strength and independence. Program Registration & Closure Policies

Policies

In order to receive member rates for programs, your membership must be current throughout the entire program session. If it expires during the session and you do not renew your membership, you will be charged an additional fee to bring the total cost of the program to the non-member rate.

Wait List Policy

If a program is full, you may request to be placed on the waitlist. You will make no payment until accepted into the program. The program director will contact you to inform you of your acceptance into the class. You will have 24 hours to contact us, if we do not hear from you, your name will be removed from the wait list and the spot will go to the next person on the wait list. Your spot is not accepted/secured unless payment is received. Please be sure we have your correct address, email, and phone number to contact you.

Program Cancellations

The YMCA may cancel a class due to unfore-seen events, i.e. safety concerns, weather, building closures, etc. The YMCA will make every effort to make up the cancelled class, however, in the event the class cannot be made up, a system credit will be issued.

General Snow Policy

It is the policy of the YMCA of Metro North to maintain regularly scheduled hours during inclement weather. However, if the safety of our members and staff is in question, we may close the building and/or cancel classes. If this is the case and fee based classes are cancelled you will be offered a make-up class at an alternate date. Full closure details will be posted on Facebook and a phone message will be available by calling the Welcome Center as soon as a decision is made. Please contact us if you have any questions and continue to check our Facebook page for updates.

Credits and Refunds

The YMCA may cancel a class due to unfore-seen events, i.e. safety concerns, weather, building closures, etc. The YMCA will make every effort to make up the cancelled class, however, in the event the class cannot be made up, a system credit will be issued.

Credits and Refunds

• If the YMCA cancels a program, a full refund will be processed.

• If notification of withdrawal is received 48 hours or more prior to the first class, a YMCA credit or full refund will be processed.

• If notification of withdrawal is received less than 48 hours prior to the first class, a YMCA credit will be issued.

• If notification of withdrawal is received between the first and second class, a YMCA credit will be issued minus the cost of the class already held.

• There are no refunds after the 2nd scheduled class.

• Make up classes or refunds are not avail-able for classes missed by participant due to personal conflict.

• If a cancellation is due to a medical issue, a doctor’s note must be provided in order for a refund to be processed.
