Psychiatric diagnostic codes used by clinicalsocial workers are found in the InternationalClassification of Diseases, 10th Edition,Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) “F”section, F01-F99, on Mental and BehavioralHealth Disorders. Third-party payers mayindividually decide which diagnostic codesthey will reimburse clinical social workersfor. Prior to submitting initial claims and toreduce claim denials, clinical socialworkers should verify with health insuranceplans their payable diagnostic codes.
The following “F” section list serves as a guide in assisting clinical social workers in locatingrelevant diagnostic codes.
F01-F09: Mental disorders due to knownphysiological conditions (e.g. F06.4 AnxietyDisorder Due to Another Medical Condition).
F10-F19: Mental and behavioral disorders due to psychoactive substance (e.g. F12.10Cannabis Use Disorder Mild).
F20-F29: Schizophrenia, schizotypal, delusional,and other non-mood psychotic disorders (e.g. F21 Schizotypal Personality Disorder).
F30-F39: Mood (Affective Disorders (e.g. F34.8Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder).
F40-F48: Anxiety, dissociative, stress-related,somatoform and other nonpsychotic mentaldisorders (e.g. F40.10 Social Anxiety Disorder).
F50-F59: Behavioral syndromes associated withphysiological disturbances and physical factors(e.g. F50.9 Unspecified Feeding or Eating Disorder).
F60-F69: Disorders of adult personality andbehavior (e.g. F60.2 Antisocial Personality Disorder).
F70-F79: Intellectual Disabilities (e.g. F79Unspecified Intellectual Disability)
F80-F89: Pervasive and Specific DevelopmentalDisorders (e.g. F84.0 Autism Spectrum Disorder).
F90-F99: Behavioral and Emotional Disorderswith Onset Usually Occurring in Childhood and Adolescence (e.g. F93.0 Separation Anxiety Disorder).
F99-F99: Unspecified Mental Disorder (e.g. F99which is unspecified mental disorder or otherspecified mental disorder).
