Third-party payers may individually decide which diagnostic codes they will reimburse clinical social workers for. Prior to submitting initial claims and to reduce claim denials, clinical social workers should verify with health insurance plans their payable diagnostic codes. The following “F” section list serves as a guide in assisting clinical social workers in locating relevant diagnostic codes. F01-F09: Mental disorders due to known physiological conditions (e.g. F06.4 Anxiety Disorder Due to Another Medical Condition). F10-F19: Mental and behavioral disorders due to psychoactive substance (e.g. F12.10 Cannabis Use Disorder Mild). F20-F29: Schizophrenia, schizotypal, delusional, and other non-mood psychotic disorders (e.g. F21 Schizotypal Personality Disorder). F30-F39: Mood (Affective Disorders (e.g. F34.8 Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder). F40-F48: Anxiety, dissociative, stress-related, somatoform and other nonpsychotic mental disorders (e.g. F40.10 Social Anxiety Disorder).
