SPIRITUALITY

In the month of November our hearts and minds turn to Veteran’s Day on

November 11, a time when we say, “Thank You for your service.”

I served for several years in the United States Army, first as an officer in Armored

Cav, then in the Chaplain Corps with a Combat Engineer unit. The term

“Chaplain” became very important to me.

Let me further explain. November 11 is not just Veteran’s Day, it is also a

commendation of St. Martin of Tours. Why is that important?

Martin served in the Roman army and later, as a monk was appointed bishop of

Tours in Gaul, which is modern day France. A story is told of Martin that on a trip

back to Tours he encountered a beggar who was literally freezing in the night.

Martin took his sword and cut his cape in half and gave the beggar half to use to

keep warm. Later that evening Martin had a vision of Jesus…wearing that half of

his cape. Martin took his half and hung it in every place he served. He became

known as the “keeper of the cape”, translated as “Chaplain.”

So, on this time we celebrate Veterans service and St. Martin, let’s also realize

that the best illustration of chaplain is the ministry of Prayer Shawls…the

keepers of the cape. Chaplains, whether they look like soldiers, priests,

ministers, or fellow residents wrap people in the love of Christ and in prayer

support.

Very blessed to be one of the keepers of the cape,

Chaplain Joe

November

“and the autumn weather turns the leaves to flame”

November reminds us of moments in our history: Election Day, Veteran’s Day, Pilgrims,

Thanksgiving and more.

Our Twin Towers Library has a good collection of History and Travel books all with a 9 on

their spine.

Cincinnati History has the label, Local Interest on the spine.

Some suggestions:

History: “American Creation” by Joseph J. Ellis

“After the War” by David Hardin

“Civil War Treasury” by B. A. Pottkin

“Ghost Soldiers” by Hampton Sides

Travel: Atlas

National Geographic

“Visiting Our Past”

“American History Lands”

“Great Historic Places”

“American Parks of the West”

Local Interest: “History of Cincinnati and its Citizens”

“Vas You Ever in Zinzinnati?”

“Cincinnati Moments” - Cincinnati Enquirer

“Steeples, Streets, and Steps” - Caroline Williams

Stop in and look for a 9 or Local Interest on the spine!

Holiday Giving Opportunities

Light Up a Life You are invited to participate in the Light Up a Life annual appeal and

celebration at Twin Lakes. The appeal will culminate with a tree-lighting ceremony on Thursday, December 4th, 2014 at 3 p.m. in the rotunda

by the Chapel. The commemoration begins by sponsoring a single light ($20) or a strand of lights

($50) in honor or memory of your loved ones. All names will be listed on the honor roll and read during the tree-lighting ceremony. Light refreshments and caroling will

follow the lighting of the tree. Please mark your calendar and be a part of this memorable celebration.

To sponsor a light(s), please complete the form and include the name(s) of the loved one(s) you are remembering and/or honoring. Lights may be purchased by check

made payable to the LEC Foundation or by credit card. Please return the completed form to the LEC Foundation office. All proceeds from this celebration will benefit the

Twin Lakes Benevolent Care Fund.

Christmas Angels

Christmas Angels hold a special place in the hearts of Twin

Towers. Over the years, each Angel sponsored has represented a gift of love for our residents. Hundreds of Angels have adorned the

Christmas trees and symbolized the generosity of so many. Each Angel that is sponsored supports the Twin Towers Benevolent Care

Fund which allows those individuals who have outlived their assets to stay in a safe, warm and caring environment. Won’t you please sponsor an Angel

to be an expression of God’s love this Christmas season? Thank you for helping to perpetuate our ministry this season. Please fill out the form below and include the

name(s) of the loved one(s) you are remembering and/or honoring. Return the completed form and check, made payable to the LEC Foundation, to Tom Reusch so

that your Angel may be placed on the tree. Join us for the Blessing of the Angel Tree on Friday, December 5th, 2014 at 6:30

p.m. in the Wilson Art Gallery and Lounge.
