Title: Seek a Sound

Why? Your child will be able to distinguish letter sounds

What? Imagination

How? Say a word out loud and have your child go on a hunt for something that starts with the same sound from around the house (you may want to start with one room in the house). For example, if you say the word “tiger,” your child might find a toothbrush, table, tomato or trash can. To simplify this activity, just give your child the initial sound /t/ instead of the word tiger.

What Else? Say a simple word, such as “cat.” Have your child think of a word (or several words) that start with the same initial sound.

Another Excellent VPI Fair! This year the VPI Parent Fair was held at the Children’s Museum of Richmond. We had over 500+ families attend this year. Our families received information regarding the VPI program and all it has to offer preschoolers. Families also had the opportunity to meet with over 20 vendors from all over the city. There was popcorn, cotton candy, face painting and we had a photo booth set up to capture beautiful moments and show Richmond why preschool matters and why preschool is real school! VPI thanks all of you for your attendance!

We had a successful turn out at our annual male involvement breakfast. The Virginia Preschool Initiative Program (VPI) affirms that male involvement in a child’s early development makes a very positive difference. There was great food and great information from our speakers. We look forward to your continued support!

If you want to get more involved in helping with our events please contact Tiana Simmons at [email protected] or Gloria Keating at [email protected] to join our VPI Parent Advocacy Team.

Otra VPI Feria Excelente!
