THE MOST SPECTACULAR HUNTING STRATEGIES OF MARINE ANIMALS DECODED.

We are only on the fringes of understanding how marine mammals hunt. We know they develop methods that are surprisingly sophisticated, and that leave scientists in awe with each new discovery.

How do animals of the same species come up with such astoundingly unique methods to find and kill their prey?

Using the very latest camera technology - drones, high-speed cameras and underwater cameras -, the scientists will explore and explain the wealth of tricks and tactics used by marine wildlife as never before.

From the humpback whale in Alaska’s Glacier Bay trapping a school of sardines to the Patagonian orcas landing on the beach to catch sea lion cubs, and Namibian hyenas infiltrating colonies of sea lions once night has fallen, this blue-chip wildlife and scientific documentary series brings us previously unseen perspectives of the genius behind these great deep-sea hunters.

THE FASCINATING STORY OF HOW ANIMALS AND PLANTS USE COOPERATION TO SURVIVE IN ONE OF THE MOST PUNISHING PLACES ON EARTH.

New science from world experts reveals that collaboration plays a major role in animal evolution.

And there is no better region of the world where this is more vividly on display than in the mighty Kalahari desert in southern Africa.

Here, more than elsewhere, animals have found incredible ways to survive: secret pacts, tacit alliances, determination and cooperation. And not just between next of kin. Often with complete strangers. Ground squirrels living alongside yellow mongooses, and helping to protect them from predators like the Cape cobra. Sociable weavers co-habiting with pygmy falcons and lizards in giant communal nests. And drongos acting as alarm-calling sentinels for meerkats as they hunt for food, in return for some of the insects they flush.

Using the very latest camera technology, this mini-series reveals the most incredible tactics animals and plants use to survive in one the most punishing places on Earth.

WHAT HAPPENS TO ANIMALS IN THE FACE OF NATURAL DISASTERS?

Every year, the Earth is hit by cyclones, earthquakes, volcanoes and floods. These events hit the front pages of newspapers with headlines documenting the human death toll.

But how about animals? How do mountain goats know a volcano is about to erupt? What happens to birds that are trapped in the eye of massive cyclones? How do chamois survive an avalanche without an airbag?

In this one-hour special we will look at how animals cope with natural disasters – before, during and after the events themselves. Some are able to foretell coming disasters, some have found ingenious ways of coping with fires, floods and storms and others manage to adapt to the aftermath and turn disasters to their advantage.

We will learn what animals have done to make the most out of some very perilous predicaments. And look at how future climate change could force them to make more changes in order to survive.

AN INTERNATIONAL TEAM OF EXPERTS INVESTIGATES SECRETS HIDDEN INSIDE NOTRE DAME DE PARIS IN ORDER TO SUCCESSFULLY PLAN HER RESTORATION.

World-famous Notre Dame de Paris cathedral was gloriously resilient, enduring centuries of tumultuous history, only to fall victim to a raging fire earlier this year.

Rebuilding the legendary Gothic structure presents a complex challenge, and requires digging into a past that is layered with mysteries. Architects, scientists, historians and artists must time-travel through 850 years of hidden modifications in order to understand how to restore the beloved icon and to ensure that it survives into the future.

With exclusive access to revolutionary 3-D modeling and scans of the cathedral - done just two years before the fire -, the team will virtually recreate Notre Dame de Paris at different stages of its history in order to truly understand how it came to be. Once their analysis is complete, they will create a state-of-the-art design and begin the reconstruction.

Capitalizing upon exclusive access to the CNRS (National Center of Scientific Research) and its rich meta-base of scans and data, secure access to the digital models of Ubisoft, and exceptional permission from the Ministry of Culture, this documentary will trace the great saga of this iconic church.

A TWO-MONTH IMMERSION IN ONE OF THE GREATEST ARCHEOLOGICAL MISSIONS TO CRACK THE SECRET TEXTS OF SAQQARA.

With its myriad mysteries, ancient Egypt continues to work its spell. But how many secrets remain entombed in its burial grounds? The necropolis of Saqqara, roughly 30 kilometers from Cairo, holds one of Egypt’s most fascinating treasures: the pyramid of pharaoh Pepi II. Few know of it as it is closed to the public, yet it holds the vastest collection of texts of all currently known pyramids.

For the first time in 90 years, teams from the international archeological mission in Saqqara will open and decipher this wondrous tomb. Its walls are covered in hieroglyphs, but what story do they tell? How to crack the mystery of texts that are over four thousand years old?

Using technological innovations such as photogrammetry, endoscopes, hyperspectral imaging and ultra-high resolution photography, this documentary alternates live scenes with staged interviews to plunge us into Saqqara’s history and offer new insights into the pharaohs’ tombs.

A NEW SCIENTIFIC DOCUMENTARY THAT TACKLES THE ISSUE OF ASTEROIDS’ IMPACT ON OUR PLANET.

65 million years ago, asteroids contributed to the disappearance of 80% of animals on Earth, including the dinosaurs. Today, they pose a real threat. In 2019, NASA has an inventory of more than 20,000 asteroids larger than 140 meters across. Every day, an average of 230 asteroids are on a collision course with our planet.

Are we prepared for asteroids? How can we prevent future disasters?

Today, scientists around the world try to map space in order to catalogue the most dangerous asteroids. For the first time in our history, mankind is taking samples from asteroids and even moving them off course. In 2020, human beings will interfere with the cosmos by intentionally shifting the trajectory of one of these rocks in order to protect the Earth.

Thanks to reconstructions and breathtaking computer graphics, this Ultra High Definition film will allow us to understand asteroids and predict their trajectories in order to avoid a new catastrophe.

THE STORY OF AMERICA’S OLDEST TERRORIST GROUP: THE KU KLUX KLAN.

KKK: Three letters that instantly conjure images of hooded processions, public lynchings, and churches in flames. These shocking scenes continue to haunt our collective memory and summon up the darkest chapters of American history.

From the abolition of slavery in 19th century to the populism of the inter-war period, from the civil rights struggle of the 1950s and 1960s to the recent riots in Charlottesville, the history of the Ku Klux Klan is inseparable from that of the United States.

But what do we really know about this secret society? How has it managed to perpetuate itself right up to the present day? On what hatreds and fears has the Klan fueled? What resistance have civil society and democratic institutions offered to it? And what does its story tell us about America’s relationship to its minorities?

Through the secret history of the Ku Klux Klan, from its creation to the present day, this film will explore more than a century of racial segregation and racism, bringing together numerous archive images and interviews with historians and witnesses who have faced the violence of the Klan.

AN EXCLUSIVE DOCUMENTARY THAT EXAMINES THE RISE AND FALL OF THE NAZI REGIME THROUGH ITS ECONOMIC SYSTEM.

June 1940: Hitler launches tanks and troops across France, Belgium and Holland. Yet Germany is impoverished, has few raw materials, and no oil or currency. How did the Nazis manage to set off the cataclysm of WWII with little money and a weak economy?

Based on the work of a new generation of French, British and German historians, our film takes an economic, industrial and financial approach to the Third Reich, exploring the inner workings of the Nazi system through key characters who have been overshadowed by history (Hjalmar Schacht, Dr Georg Von Schnitzler, Fritz Sauckel, Erich Müller…).

Thanks to 3D animation and a new approach to archives, this film will reveal how the Nazis were able to weave their violent, racist views into every thread of the German economy, from large-scale industry to small businesses to agriculture, research and finance, creating a model whose main management tools were theft and mass murder, and whose ultimate goal was war and the destruction of Europe.

AN INTIMATE AND UNPRECEDENTED PORTRAIT OF GRACE KELLY THROUGH THE EYES OF HER FAMILY.

Considered one of the most beautiful actresses of her time, Grace Kelly remains an icon today. Her life and career are well documented, from her work in Hollywood to her marriage to Prince Rainier and her tragic death in a car accident in 1982.

But do we know the inside story? Who really was Grace Kelly?

Thanks to an exclusive agreement with the Principality of Monaco, this documentary will tell Grace’s life story as it’s never been told before, through the eyes of those close to her and who loved her, including her family – notably Prince Albert of Monaco – and friends.

For the first time, the Grimaldi family has given access to its private archives, much of which has never been made public before, and agreed to talk us through this intimate material. This comprises many films shot in 8mm, 16mm and super-8 by Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier themselves, which reveal a mother who is quite different to the official image: Free, vibrant, surrounded by her children and participating in family life.

AN INVESTIGATION ON THE RISE OF INDIA’S NEW LEADER WHO HAS CHANGED THE FACE OF HIS COUNTRY.

Never before has India been so visible on the international stage. A democratic nuclear power with a population soon to outstrip that of China, forecast to become the world’s third biggest economic power by 2029, India has become, over the space of a few years, a major global player.

At its head is Narendra Modi, who combines populism with economic modernism, and embodies the ambiguity of this country better than anyone. Since his election in 2014, this man of the people, so skilled in communication, has undertaken some profound economic reforms but is also driving a nationalist and populist internal shift, to the detriment of minorities, women, and human rights.

What is his personal and political trajectory? What does his ascension tell us about the workings of Indian democracy and this new world order in the making?

Through the portrait of this political juggernaut, comprising interviews with Modi’s relatives, his political opponents and international experts, this investigative documentary recounts the emergence of a conquering India on the global scene, marking an historic turning point for the country and for the world.

It is no longer surprising to see private corporations put strategies in place to confuse the public debate and paralyze political decision-making. Overwhelmed by excess of information, how can we, as citizens, sort out fact from fiction? One by one, this film dismantles the workings of this clever manoeuvre that aims to turn science against itself. Thanks to declassified archives and graphic animations, this investigation plunges us into the science of doubt. THANKS TO A REVOLUTIONARY UNDERWATER CAPSULE, A DAY-TO-DAY IMMERSION IN THE DEEP WATERS OF FRENCH POLYNESIA.

In French Polynesia, in Opunohu Bay, Moorea, an amazing aquatic ballet takes place every year. In the theatre of these warm and crystalline waters, corals release thousands of eggs, humpback whales give birth and raise their calves, and lemon sharks engage in fierce fighting to mate females.

To better understand these unknown phenomena, and try to observe them, the teams of Under The Pole have developed a new underwater exploration tool: a revolutionary capsule allowing divers to observe the funds 24h / 24h. While they are usually limited to dives of a few hours - because of the decompression stops –, the team can spend several days in a row under water, 20 meters deep, aboard the capsule.

During two months, day and night, in total immersion, we will observe extremely rare phenomena that have mostly never been filmed. Mixing human adventure, underwater exploration and scientific discoveries, this film will tell the extraordinary adventure of these new explorers of the oceans.

WHAT IF OASES WERE ABLE TO ANSWER THE ENVIRONMENTAL AND HUMAN CHALLENGES OF TOMORROW?

Oases are not just a haven of green coming straight out of a postcard. A complex and unique ecosystem, they were built by the genius of men and women, through the expert management of natural resources, based on traditional skills. But today’s challenging environmental conditions might jeopardize this fragile balance.

Embark on a journey to the most beautiful oases in the world, and meet the people who created these unique landscapes. Together, they join forces into these open-air laboratories to maintain the traditional oasis lifestyle and initiate new projects to preserve this unique ecosystem.

From Morocco to Mexico through the United Arab Emirates, each episode plunges us into a dream-like journey, to discover these changing ecosystems.

Episodes:

- Tafilalet (Morocco)- Los Comondú (Mexico)- Liwa (Abu Dhabi)- Al-Ayn (Oman)
