Great Holiday Dinner
On Saturday, January 14th, Evergreen members gathered at the (new)
Old Spaghetti Factory in Tacoma for some fellowship and a tasty meal.
The ice cream was especially popular, some had seconds or thirds! If
you weren’t there, you were missed! The spaghetti and lasagna were
mighty good and it’s always over before you get a chance to talk to
everyone that you wanted to… Jim & Nate raffled off prizes and we all
look forward to a great New Year with lots of rides ahead.

Mecum Las Vegas Motorcycle Auction Jan 25-28, 2017
Mad & Bill went to Las Vegas for the auction for the first time, and it was huge! We saw several familiar
faces and hundreds of unique bikes.
Some went pretty cheap, others went
higher than we dreamed, up to sever-
al hundred thousand dollars.

The auction started on Wednesday; we arrived
on Thursday, got our passes and walked around
in awe of the bikes on display. Friday morning
started with memorabilia, and then each bike
spends only 3-4 minutes as it gets rolled across
the stage. One thing for sure, everybody en-
joyed the bikes and talking to other enthusiasts.

Las Vegas,
cont’d.
Ok the top left photo was a side trip from the auction, up to
Valley of Fire State Park, only an hour North of Las Vegas.
The road was rated as one of the top motorcycling roads in
Nevada, and the park is well worth a trip for the scenery.
You can take the loop through the park, and then along Lake
Mead down to the West side of Hoover Dam. Continue to
Henderson, and you can stop at the Clark County Museum
and get your pic taken with Mark, the Beard of Knowledge,
(cardboard, that is, if he’s not in) like Bill did. Below is Wild-
horse Lake, elevation 9600’ in Steens Mountains, OR. Really

WINTER 2017
In September, the shorter days and cooler temps were
making me anxious about the end of riding season, and I
still had a trip I wanted to take. Southern Utah is one of
our favorites, and several years ago we found a dirt road
that connects Escalante and Big Water, about 55 miles.
The landscape isn't done justice by pictures, its like an-
other world—odd rock formations and earth
upheavals, slot canyons, riverbeds and erosion.
Cool stuff!! So we loaded up our adventure
bikes and headed off for Southeastern Oregon
to the Steens Mountains (camp). We found
beautiful glacial carved gorges and tundra, since
we were at 9600’ elevation. Then, riding across
Northern Nevada (boring), had lunch at Wendo-
ver before crossing the Salt Flats for 80+ miles
and headed South at Tooele where we aimed
for a thunder & lightening storm, and finally
caught up with it at Delta; we got blown off the
road and decided to stop and dry out for the night!
(hotel.) Then on to Cedar Breaks Nat’l Monument, and
South toward the east border of Zion (camp). We spent
2 hotel nights in Kanab; toured Zion, took a trip to the
North Rim of the Grand Canyon; then on to our highlight
of travelling the Cottonwood Canyon Road. Since the
recent rain had caused a lot of havoc, we were warned if
we loved our bikes, we shouldn’t take it. ..so we left with
even more determination to give it a try! The road was
ok in spots but the deep sand, wet underneath, was a
bugger! We took about 3 hours to get across to the
town of Canonville on the other end, and we still had
another 100 miles to go; over the (outrageous) hogback
through Boulder, to Torrey, where we found a nice rustic
cabin for the night. Funny, we went all that way and
there were a half dozen guys from the Puget Sound area
on the same journey! Utah’s Highway 89 is the most
outstanding road I’ve ridden in all my travels. After that,
it was pretty much two days of haul ass to get home.
Some 3700 miles in 9 days, but trying to get a Malmgren
to rest a bit along the road is a hard task. We’ll try to do
better this year… Madeline
