How to NAR

STEP 1: Start with a crazy idea. It can be anything – a song mash-up of David Guetta and Weird Al Yankovich, a story about a killer armadillo, a photograph of a person’s glabella, an ode to boysenberry pie. We accept everything!!!

STEP 2: Make it happen!!!

STEP 3: Email it to us at [email protected].

STEP 4: Stare at your inbox for hours in breathless anticipation.

STEP 5: Rejoice when you receive the “Congratulations” email.

STEP 6: Party at the Unveiling as you share your creativity with all of CHP.

And now you know how to NAR. So go do it!!!

I ask you take my hand, And with me walk for a bit. So I may lead you to a land dark to you, But to me all too lit. Take heed though, That at any step along our journey, You may feel light of head, Rest yours upon my shoulder, And absent note of how far we've tread, You'll return to the fantasylands, Of which you've read. Yet I fear less for you than me, And though this appears as a me unseen, Grant me respite till the time to be. Till we reach this place, Where the lakes gleam clear, And reflect not of your face, But of a part of you within that draws me near, To defenseless eyefuls of tear. Then and only then, You'll stand tall enough, Against the forest's fright, To carry me back home, Yet still free your lips along the way, To whisper me a lullaby goodnight. For if our venture, Has eclipsed your sight, Tracing a silhouette, Of your heart as most pure and good, Then I deserve a final slumber. Showing you that you're the most beautiful best friend, I could have done no more right in the end.

Are you sleeping?

Are you sleeping?

(B-I-N-G-O.) If you're happy and you know it

(E-I-E-I-O.) If you're happy and you know it,

clap your hands, shoulders,

knees and toes

And far away, along came Jill

(gently down the stream)

Down came the rain

(washed the king's men out,

stuck a feather in the dream--

which nobody can deny).

Did you ever see

such a thing in your life?

Catch a tiger, catch a tiger by the

hands, shoulders, knees and toes;

Round and round the garden

The hands on the clock go

Round and round--

The mouse ran up

the hill, the cow

Are you sleeping?

Are you sleeping?

A merry old soul was he.

(Have the wish I wish tonight;

Words will never hurt me.

Life is but a dream

gently but a dream.)

Pop! goes the feather takes

the lamb

stands alone.

Pop! goes the

sticks and stones,

Pop! goes the cradle will--is--

falling down, falling down.

The cradle is falling down;

When the wind blows,

wind will break my bones--

Mary had so many children

Mary didn't know what to do.

(Hush. Little lamb. Don't say a word.

Leave them alone, and they'll come home,

My fair lady.)

O, who will drive the chariot

Page 11: Winter 2013

Winter 2013 7

Another day, along came the king's

men who couldn't hush--

couldn't drive the chariot when the feather came

(tumbling down the stream).

Ashes, black sheep

whose fleece was white as snow. Ashes:

Are you sleeping?

Are you sleeping?

We all fall down.

Morning bells are ringing, ring around to town.

Ashes, ashes.

We all fall down.

The waves roll swift to the shore, Then leave and come back no more, They retreat back distant nowhere close, Then rush to the shore salt overdose They come and then they go Smooth glass like created path, Made in the wicked aftermath, Reaches in far and takes away, Articles that were meant to stay They come and then they go Crash hard and over in curl, Takes time to make a pearl, Sometimes calm and slow, Always making quick to go They come and then they go

Beneath glimmering armor, And faded scars that mask his tone, This knight has a vulnerable spot, Its location he hides from being known. He, In all his dexterity, Misses all too much. Not with his steel, Or even his fist, But one that erupts, From the mere waving of his wrist. He holds as a titan in times of war, But when sails are hoisted, He feels an all too human chill, Emanate from his core. Forged in fearlessness, He welcomes his enemies, With a blood-thirsty gaze, Having even turned Lady Medusa, Away in a haze. Yet the shadow of this villain, He doesn’t dare a blink. For a rupture from his own inside, A discord from his very heart, Leaves his chain-mail an onus, That drowns him as his soul is split apart. So away with that armor, And with it be gone his honor. Unbuckled and untied, He only hopes to survive this goodbye.
