Feed My People Food BankFeed My People established an agency fund with the Eau Claire Community Foundation in 2006. “Our organization is somewhat unique in that when our services are needed most may coincide with when donors are least able to donate,” explains Emily Moore, executive director. “When funds are tight for everyone is the worst time for us to cut back.” In order to assure that those in need of food will have access to it regardless of temporary changes in economic conditions, the FMP board felt it was prudent to establish a fund at the ECCF. The funds will likely be used when there is a spike in need or for significant capital improvements that are the result of sustained high levels of need. The agency fund is an import-ant tool for assuring access to food in our neighbor’s greatest time of need.

Paul Bunyan CampThe Paul Bunyan Logging Camp Museum was searching for a unique event to raise money for the Camp and showcase the Chippewa Valley. In 2011, it brought the US Open Chainsaw Sculpture Championship to Eau Claire. The US Open features the best chainsaw carvers from around the world who create amazingly detailed pieces of artwork during the four-day event. The event also includes guest carvers who carve smaller pieces auctioned off daily, a variety of children’s activities, family entertainment, and food vendors. The Camp, celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2014, found a national event which helps keeps the Camp financially solvent, brings a significant amount of tourism money to Eau Claire and provides visitors with the chance to acquire beautiful works of art. In 2013 we are pleased to report that we raised $28,000 from this event for our endoment fund.

Chippewa Velley Council - Boy Scouts of AmericaThe Endowment Fund for the Chippewa Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America provides operating income that helps the Chippewa Valley Council to offer special programs including after-school Cub Scouting, programs for at-risk youth, and the Empowered Leadership Program. This year we have focused on increasing participation from the Hmong youth in our community. One of the many partnerships that the endowment fund supports is the Chippewa Valley Council’s partnership with the Eau Claire Area Hmong Mutual Assistance Association (ECAHMAA). The Chippewa Valley Council offers a leadership development program to youth at the ECAHMAA. Recently, youth participated in activities related to team building, problem solving, conflict resolution, and ethical decision-making. This spring the group will also have the opportunity to visit Camp Phillips to participate in team building activities on the ropes courses.

Pinehurst ProjectWork began at the Pinehurst site this fall with the first donations that came in. First, several acres of trees were removed (about 40 acres of woods remain at the park). Next, stumps and rocks were removed from the hill. Just before the ground froze, volunteer crews planted grass seed and took measures to prevent erosion until the new grass takes hold. Having the Foundation as a partner very early in the process was a smart move for the Pinehurst Project’s leadership team. The strength and reputation of the Foundation communicates to potential donors that we are legitimate, capable, and trustworthy. ECCF is also provid-ing us with invaluable guidance as we take Pinehurst from a dream to reality.Pinehurst Park 2.0 is taking shape, go check it out!

Gifts Make Added Wishes Come TrueEau Claire Public Schools wishes do come true thanks to gifts and pledges from individuals, businesses, PTA’s PTO’s, and Booster Clubs. This winter the ECPSF Grants Committee will award 13 grants totaling more than $7,000. ECASD projects and programs range from arts and culture to an anti-bullying project and a Bridge to College Success program at McKinley High School.Gifts come in all sizes to fit all kinds of needs. North High and Memorial High Booster Clubs have funded after school strength and conditioning programs through ECPSF. A North High Performing Arts Fund is being established to support the first musical at North High in 20 years. A committee is working to build baseball dugouts at NHS, and the list goes on. The foundation receives gifts, bequests, and pledges of any amount. There are projects and needs to meet every donor’s interests. Schools maintain “Wish Lists” of greatest needs. Take a look at what that they are ‘wishing for” at www.ecasd.k12.wi.us/foundation. If you care about education and our community consider making a gift to the ECPSF and know that your gift matters to our students and teachers and that it truly makes a difference to the community. Because of the generosity of so many, Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation holds funds and makes grants for value added projects, and some of the greatest needs of Eau Claire students.
