Welcome Cattlemen and Friends,
2011 is a new year for the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic with new facilities and lots of new opportunities for you! This is one Classic you don’t want to miss.
This fall was extremely exciting with the new facilities being completed at the Buffalo Co. Fairgrounds and creating a new layout for the Classic. We were also extremely busy working with our sponsors to establish new opportunities for the consignors and buyers coming to the 2011 Classic.
Our new facilities have given us the opportunity to expand the horse events at the Classic. The Classic will start on Monday, February 14th with a Team Penning and Team Roping. Tuesday will feature the Ranch Competition starting at 9:00 a.m. with part one, Dog Trials during the noon hour, and Ranch Horse Competition part 2 at 2:00 p.m. followed by sales that evening.
Wednesday, February 16th is a big day with the start of the Cattle Shows and Sales. All cattle shows now start at 10:00 a.m. and the sales start in the afternoon at 1:00 p.m.. Wednesday will also feature the Cattle Feeders and Veterinary’s Day at the Classic. This will be a day full of speakers, FREE lunch and FREE evening entertainment.
Thursday, February 17th is a day with the Angus, Simmental, Charolais and a Royal Evening with the ABS Fancy Pen of 3 Heifer Sale and the elite offering of Embryos, Flushes, Pregnancies and Semen. The Fancy Pen of 3 Heifer Sale will add some excitement to the evening as we will sell “People’s Choice” for the 1st two lots. The buyers will have the chance to win up to $250 Classic Cash.
Friday, February 18th will feature the Limousin, Red Angus, Gelbvieh-Balancer with the “Commercial Pen of 5 Heifer Sale” at 7:00 p.m.. We are excited for the Pen of 5 Sale this year. Entries are open until Feb. 1st for the pen sale. This year you do not need to halter break these heifers, just bring them to town. The heifers will be loose in the pens. They will be stalled in front of the new Expo Building. We will video them on Thursday afternoon at the Classic and then sell them on the video screen Friday night. The heifers will never leave their pen.
Saturday, February 19th the Maine Anjou, Chimaines and Chiangus will be showcased. Junior events get underway. Junior cattle have to be checked-in by NOON. Plus, the Livestock Judging Contest will also start at 7:30 a.m.. The “Grand Finale” will be that evening with the Supreme Row Judging. Sunday will wrap up the event with the Junior Show.
I am running out of space to discuss all the new opportunities for you this year at the Classic. Make sure and review the website or call for your catalog with complete details on the Classic. Happy New Year to everyone! Mark your calendars for the Classic and we look forward to seeing you in Kearney.
