O ne of myfondestChristmasmemories wasseveral friends andme camping on thedesert. Theweather was coldand took my breathaway. We stacked

several tumbleweeds on top of theother. Then we

decorated our tree with aluminum foil.We sat around the tree, listened toChristmas music over the trucks radio, and watched the light from our camp firereflect off of the aluminum foil. Iremember watching the stars flickering inthe sky and knew that there was a Creatorof the mountains, sand, rocks, Mesquite,Palo Verde and cacti that surrounded us. Iremember being filled with hope for afuture. This was my first Christmas in the

Desert experience. As I continue to experienceChristmas in the Desert, I realize thatChristmas should be a time filled withhope . Sadly, everyday at Crossroads, people come to us for services and havelittle hope . Im so excited to see thathope come back in someones eyes whenthey realize that there are people who careabout them. A hot meal, warm clothing, blankets, a dry place to sleep is importantin bringing hope for tomorrow to ourguests. Donors like you help us give hope to the homeless, addicted, abused andmentally ill. Without men and womenlike you, Christmas on the Desert wouldnot be filled with hope . As believers, weknow that from His birth in the manger toHis dying on the Cross we can have hope for eternal life. May your ChristmasSeason be filled with hope as we share thehope of this season and eternity with ourguests at Crossroads Mission. MerryChristmas! God bless you and yourloved ones!

My name is Laura P. and this is mystory.

I guess this story starts about eightyears ago when my former husband nearlyput me away for good. He put me in a comafor three months causing the loss of thechild I was caring. It took me two years topull through this and then to gain thestrength to leave my marriage. I also leftmy surviving children with my husband, due to not having the ability to care forthem or myself, until I was able to build upthe strength I needed to be a mother. In themean time my husband passed away and

his family got custody of the children. Myhusband and his family had papers drawnup stating that in the event of somethinghappening, that the family receivedautomatic custody of my children.

I had a very tough time with this and Icould not pull myself out of my depression.

I had to dig deep to find my strength Iknew I had, to pick myself up and not letlife keep me down. I forced myself to goout and find a job. I walked into theRamada Inn on 32nd Street a year ago, andfilled out an application, and have been

working for them since. I started out
