    if youre a regular reader of Renters Guide, you know we offer a variety of information for those looking for a new place to call home. But did you know it is your responsibility as a tenant to know your rights and responsibilities prior to signing a lease agreement?

    By knowing the terms of the rental contract ahead of time, you will be well informed and able to determine if the location is the right one for you. Once you choose your location, a landlord should give you adequate written notice when rent or landlord services have been adjusted, and you should be able to discuss any clarifications or adjustments before a new lease is signed.

    Many landlords and property management companies do their jobs well and care about the property they own as well as the people who live there. It is in their best interest to keep good tenants. Many go above and beyond. Do you know a terrific landlord or property management team? What makes him or her so great? Let us know. Wed love to hear from you!

    if youre apartment hunting at this time of year, buildings with outdoor amenities like a pool, tennis courts and gorgeous grounds will seem extra-enticing. And air-conditioning will probably also top the list. Some communities just seem designed for warm weather and summer living practically like living at a resort!

    While it sounds like fun, take a minute to look at your wishlist before you get too attached to that dream of days by the pool. Theres no reason you cant have it, but make sure that some of the other important items on your list dont get missed.

    It might seem reasonable to go a bit further away from your ideal location, but once the summer fun is over and the days grow shorter, will the longer walk to the bus stop become annoying, and more of an issue in rain and snow? If you trade-off for no underground parking, will you be upset while cleaning off the car all winter?

    If youre going over budget to attain those extra amenities, make sure its worth it in the long run. It can seem perfectly reasonable to make decisions for the now but if they come at the cost of what youll need later you may regret it.

Dont expect to be hauling furniture down 10 flights of stairs or anchoring a fridge down your friends fifth-floor bedroom window with nothing but a rope and your own body weight. In fact, I really do not suggest relying on friends for a complete move, but rather for a pair of helping hands.

    There are many ways you can help with a move, including before the move, during the move and even after the move. Getting your personal belongings organized and neatly packed into boxes is actually half the work, and that job doesnt involve breaking your back.

    Moving also involves a lot of cleaning be it the old place youre leaving or your new place that still needs to be vacuumed and dusted before bringing in your furniture. Then, after all that work, theres the unpacking and once again getting organized.

    So, before you say no to helping with a move, just consider asking your friend what exactly they need help with. Your strength at some point may be needed, but just being there to help pack, clean and organize can also be a big help. Also, rest assured there will definitely be pizza involved.

    Now with all of that said, helping your friends move still isnt the most enjoyable way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Thats why I say keep your friends close and the friends you help move even closer they totally owe you including with your own next big move!

Getting your possessions to your new home in excellent condition is important to us as well as you. If you still decide to pack yourself, you may want to purchase packing supplies from your mover.
