We were really happy with the response to the contest - more than 121 entries across eight categories. We had such a tough time deciding the winning entries because most of you have written extremely well. Although some have not won, they have been constructed well and are rich in content. We have come up with the results of the "Round Up of the Year" Contest. We were really happy with the response to the contest - more than 121 entries across eight categories. The Mumbai Marathon is won by Jackson Kiprop of Uganda in the men's category and Valentine Kipketer of Ethiopia among the women.

Victoria Azarenka of Belgium defeats China's Li Na to win the Australian Open 2013 women's singles title. Bob and Mike Bryan of USA win the men's doubles title to continue their streak following their wins in the 2012 Olympic Games and US Open.

Serbia's Novak Djokovic defeats Britain's Andy Murray to win his 3rd straight Australian Open men's singles title.

A major match fixing scandal is unearthed in football involving matches played all over the world from 2008 to 2011. The kingpins of this scandal were found to be based in Singapore.

Ranchi Rhinos win the inaugural Hockey India League, beating the Delhi Wave Riders in the final.

Nigeria wins football's Africa Cup of Nations for the 3rd time, beating Burkina Faso 1-0 in the final.

India whitewashes Australia 4-0 to regain the Border-Gavaskar trophy in cricket. This tour was highlighted by Shikhar Dhawan's breath taking 187 on debut and the suspension of 4 Australian cricketers for the Mohali test for not listing down points for their improvement as directed by the coach and captain.

The sixth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) gets underway.

The racehorse Auroras Encore ridden by jockey Ryan Mania wins the Grand National.

Australia's Adam Scott wins the Augusta Masters in Golf 2013.

Fernando Alonso of Ferrari wins the 2013 Chinese Grand Prix in Formula 1.

The 117th edition of the prestigious Boston Marathon was marred by 2 bomb blasts taking place near the finishing line. 3 people were killed and 264 were injured.

Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull wins the 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix in Formula 1.

Tsegaye Kebede of Ethipia (men's) and Priscah Jeptoo of Kenya (women's) win the London Marathon.

Manchester United wins their 20th Barclays Premier League title.

The racehorse Orb ridden by jockey Joel Rosario wins the Kentucky Derby.

Wigan Athletic stun Manchester City with an injury time goal to win their 1st ever FA Cup title (the world's oldest football tournament). In a strange twist, Wigan is relegated from the English Premier League 3 days later following a loss to Arsenal.

FC Barcelona wins the Spanish League title for the 22nd time.

Fernando Alonso of Ferrari wins the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix in Formula 1.

Chelsea Football Club of England wins the Europa League trophy, defeating SL Benfica of Portugal 2-1 in the final.

In the IPL, 3 Rajasthan Royals players S. Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila are arrested by the Delhi Police in Mumbai for spot-fixing on IPL matches. In a separate investigation carried out by Mumbai police, Chennai Super Kings' Gurunath Meiyappan is arrested and Rajasthan Royals part-owner Raj Kundra is interrogated for betting.

Juventus of Turin wins the Italian Serie A title for the 2nd straight year and a record 29th time overall.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) withdraws Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf from the upcoming Champions Trophy, under reports he is under investigation by the Mumbai police for spot-fixing and betting.

India defeat England to win the final edition of cricket's Champions Trophy after a thrilling final reduced to 21 over a side due to rain.

Nico Rosberg of Mercedes wins the 2013 British Grand Prix in Formula 1.

New Zealand wins the 2013 Rugby Sevens World Cup.

Brazil defeats world and European champions Spain to win the Confederations Cup football tournament. Neymar is named Player of the tournament.

Lin Dan of China wins the men's singles title while Thailand's Ratchanok Inthanon wins women's singles at the World Badminton Championships. India's PV Sindhu wins the bronze medal in women's singles.

Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica win 3 gold medals each in the World Athletics Championships. Bolt (8 golds, 2 silvers) becomes the most successful athlete in the World Championships. The competition was marred by the doping suspensions of Tyson Gay, Asafa Powell and Veronica Campbell-Brown and contoversy regarding Russian law prohibiting gay or lesbian athletes.

Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull wins the 2013 Belgian Grand Prix in Formula 1.

FC Bayern Munich defeats Chelsea 5-4 on penalties after their match ends 2-2 to win the UEFA Super Cup title.

The Hyderabad Hotshots won the inaugural IBL title, defeating the Awadhe Warriors in the final.

Korea beat India in the final of men's hockey Asia Cup to qualify for the 2014 Hockey World Cup. India, however, qualified for the World Cup in Novmber following conclusion of other continental competitions.

Serena Williams defeated Victoria Azarenka to win the women's singles title at the 2013 US Open. India's Leander Paes along with Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic won the men's doubles title. They defeated Bob and Mike Bryan in the semifinals to deny them a calender Grand Slam.

Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull wins the 2013 Italian Grand Prix in Formula 1.

Rafael Nadal defeated Novak Djokovic in the men's singles final of the 2013 US Open.

Afghanistan stunned India in the final of the South Asian Football Federation championship to win their maiden title. Afghanistan were awarded FIFA's Fair Play award in January 2014 to honour this triumph.

Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull wins the 2013 Singapore Grand Prix in Formula 1.

October

South Korea wins the World Archery Championships 2013.

Mumbai Indians defeats Rajasthan Royals in the final of the Champions League Twenty20. This match marked the end of Rahul Dravid's illustrious cricketing career.

United States won the 2013 President's Cup in golf.

Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull wins the 2013 Korean Grand Prix in Formula 1.

Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull wins the 2013 Japanese Grand Prix in Formula 1.

Novak Djokovic defeats Rafael Nadal in the final of the ATP World Masters Final. Nadal ends the year as World No. 1.

Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar retires from all forms of cricket following India's 2-0 win in a test series against the West Indies. He holds the world records for most ODI and test runs scored, most ODI and test centuries and most ODI appearances, becoming the 1st cricketer to hit an ODI double century and 100 international centuries.

The Czech Republic won the Davis Cup in tennis, defeating Serbia 3-2 in the final.

Magnus Carlsen of Norway defeated India's 5-time world champion Vishwanathan Anand 6.5 - 3.5 to become the new World Chess Champion, in the championship held in Chennai. Carlsen already held the world records of the highest ever ELO rating of 2872 and being the youngest ever world No. 1.

FDI inflows into the service sector declined by about 14 % this fiscal which contributes over 50 % to India’s GDP and this decline could impact the rupee.
