We have come up with the results of the "Round Up of the Year" Contest. We were really happy with the response to the contest - more than 121 entries across eight categories. We had such a tough time deciding the winning entries because most of you have written extremely well. Although some have not won, they have been constructed well and are rich in content.

Australian defeat Sri Lanka 3-0 to claim the Warne Muralitharan trophy. Veteran Australian batsman Michael Hussey (aka Mr. Cricket) announced his retirement from international test cricket following the conclusion of the series.
India defeat Pakistan in the 3rd ODI of the bilateral series, but lose the series 2-1.
Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia wins the 2013 Chennai Open title. It was his 4th career title.
Argentina and FC Barcelona's Lionel Messi wins the 2012 Ballon d'or following an astonishing 2012 where he set a new world record for most goals scored (91), beating Gerd Muller's 85 goals record. Pep Guardiola wins the Manager of the Year title.
7 time Tour de France winner and founder of 'Livestrong Foundation' to aid cancer patients, American cyclist Lance Armstrong confesses to using performance enhancing drugs on TV host Oprah Winfrey's talk show. He was subsequently banned for life and stripped of all 7 titles as well as a bronze medal won by him in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
The Mumbai Marathon is won by Jackson Kiprop of Uganda in the men's category and Valentine Kipketer of Ethiopia among the women.
Victoria Azarenka of Belgium defeats China's Li Na to win the Australian Open 2013 women's singles title. Bob and Mike Bryan of USA win the men's doubles title to continue their streak following their wins in the 2012 Olympic Games and US Open.
India wins the ODI series against England 3-2.
Serbia's Novak Djokovic defeats Britain's Andy Murray to win his 3rd straight Australian Open men's singles title.
Mumbai wins the Ranji trophy for the 40th time, defeating Saurashtra in the final.
The ICC Women's Cricket World Cup gets underway in Mumbai.

The Baltimore Ravens defeat the San Francisco 49ers to win their second Super Bowl title.
A major match fixing scandal is unearthed in football involving matches played all over the world from 2008 to 2011. The kingpins of this scandal were found to be based in Singapore.
Ranchi Rhinos win the inaugural Hockey India League, beating the Delhi Wave Riders in the final.
Nigeria wins football's Africa Cup of Nations for the 3rd time, beating Burkina Faso 1-0 in the final.

The ancient sport of wrestling was struck off the list of disciplines for the 2020 Olympic Games. It was, however, reinstated in November following a vote of all IOC members.
The 1st double amputee sprinter to compete with able bodied runners in the Olympics, Oscar Pistorius of South Africa (nicknamed the 'Blade Runner') is charged with shooting dead his girlfriend at his home in Pretoria.
Australia wins the women's Cricket World Cup, defeating West Indies in the final.

India whitewashes Australia 4-0 to regain the Border-Gavaskar trophy in cricket. This tour was highlighted by Shikhar Dhawan's breath taking 187 on debut and the suspension of 4 Australian cricketers for the Mohali test for not listing down points for their improvement as directed by the coach and captain.

The racehorse Auroras Encore ridden by jockey Ryan Mania wins the Grand National.
Australia's Adam Scott wins the Augusta Masters in Golf 2013.
Fernando Alonso of Ferrari wins the 2013 Chinese Grand Prix in Formula 1.
The 117th edition of the prestigious Boston Marathon was marred by 2 bomb blasts taking place near the finishing line. 3 people were killed and 264 were injured.
Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull wins the 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix in Formula 1.
Tsegaye Kebede of Ethipia (men's) and Priscah Jeptoo of Kenya (women's) win the London Marathon.
Manchester United wins their 20th Barclays Premier League title.

The racehorse Orb ridden by jockey Joel Rosario wins the Kentucky Derby.
Wigan Athletic stun Manchester City with an injury time goal to win their 1st ever FA Cup title (the world's oldest football tournament). In a strange twist, Wigan is relegated from the English Premier League 3 days later following a loss to Arsenal.
FC Barcelona wins the Spanish League title for the 22nd time.
Fernando Alonso of Ferrari wins the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix in Formula 1.
Chelsea Football Club of England wins the Europa League trophy, defeating SL Benfica of Portugal 2-1 in the final.
In the IPL, 3 Rajasthan Royals players S. Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila are arrested by the Delhi Police in Mumbai for spot-fixing on IPL matches. In a separate investigation carried out by Mumbai police, Chennai Super Kings' Gurunath Meiyappan is arrested and Rajasthan Royals part-owner Raj Kundra is interrogated for betting.

FC Bayern Munich win their 23rd Bundesliga title, finishing a massive 25 points ahead of nearest challengers Borussia Dortmund. They also set all-time records in the Bundesliga for most goals scored (98), best goal difference (+80), most wins (29) and points (91).
Manchester United's celebrated manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, retires after having won 38 trophies including 13 Premier League and 2 Champions League titles. Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea qualify for the Champions League.
Juventus of Turin wins the Italian Serie A title for the 2nd straight year and a record 29th time overall.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) withdraws Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf from the upcoming Champions Trophy, under reports he is under investigation by the Mumbai police for spot-fixing and betting.

England's Justin Rose wins the 2013 US Open in golf.
The Miami Heat win their 2nd straight NBA title and 3rd overall, beating the Sam Antonio Spurs in 7 games.
India defeat England to win the final edition of cricket's Champions Trophy after a thrilling final reduced to 21 over a side due to rain.
Nico Rosberg of Mercedes wins the 2013 British Grand Prix in Formula 1.
New Zealand wins the 2013 Rugby Sevens World Cup.
Brazil defeats world and European champions Spain to win the Confederations Cup football tournament. Neymar is named Player of the tournament.

Marion Bartoli of France wins the Wimbledon women's singles title defeating Germany's Sabine Liscki in the final. Bob and Mike Bryan win the men's doubles for their 4th straight grand slam title.
Andy Murray of Scotland becomes the 1st British man since Fred Perry in 1936 to win the men's singles title at Wimbledon defeating Novak Djokovic in the final.
Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull wins the 2013 German Grand Prix in Formula 1.
Chris Froome of Team Sky wins the 2013 Tour de France road cycling race.
Phil Mickelson of USA wins the 2013 Open Championship in golf.

Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes wins the 2013 Hungarian Grand Prix in Formula 1.

Jason Dufner of USA wins the 2013 PGA Championship in golf.
Lin Dan of China wins the men's singles title while Thailand's Ratchanok Inthanon wins women's singles at the World Badminton Championships. India's PV Sindhu wins the bronze medal in women's singles.
Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica win 3 gold medals each in the World Athletics Championships. Bolt (8 golds, 2 silvers) becomes the most successful athlete in the World Championships. The competition was marred by the doping suspensions of Tyson Gay, Asafa Powell and Veronica Campbell-Brown and contoversy regarding Russian law prohibiting gay or lesbian athletes.

Korea beat India in the final of men's hockey Asia Cup to qualify for the 2014 Hockey World Cup. India, however, qualified for the World Cup in Novmber following conclusion of other continental competitions.
Serena Williams defeated Victoria Azarenka to win the women's singles title at the 2013 US Open. India's Leander Paes along with Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic won the men's doubles title. They defeated Bob and Mike Bryan in the semifinals to deny them a calender Grand Slam.
Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull wins the 2013 Italian Grand Prix in Formula 1.
Rafael Nadal defeated Novak Djokovic in the men's singles final of the 2013 US Open.
Afghanistan stunned India in the final of the South Asian Football Federation championship to win their maiden title. Afghanistan were awarded FIFA's Fair Play award in January 2014 to honour this triumph.

October
South Korea wins the World Archery Championships 2013.
Mumbai Indians defeats Rajasthan Royals in the final of the Champions League Twenty20. This match marked the end of Rahul Dravid's illustrious cricketing career.
United States won the 2013 President's Cup in golf.
Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull wins the 2013 Korean Grand Prix in Formula 1.
Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull wins the 2013 Japanese Grand Prix in Formula 1.
Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull wins the 2013 Indian Grand Prix in Formula 1. He wraps up his 4th consecutive Drivers championship and Red Bull wins the constructor's championship. Both Korean and Indian GPs are removed from the F1 calender for 2014.
Boston Red Sox beat the St. Louis Cardinals to win baseball's World Series title.

India's Rohit Sharma becomes the 3rd batsman to hit a double century in ODI cricket after Sachin Tendulkar and Virendra Sehwag to help India defeat Australia 3-2 in the ODI series.
Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull wins the 2013 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in Formula 1.
Italy defeats Russia 4-0 in the final to win the Fed Cup in tennis.
The New York City Marathon is won by Kenya's Geoffrey Mutai (men's) and Priscah Jeptoo (women's).
Spanish rookie Marc Marquez sensationally wins the Moto GP world title.
Novak Djokovic defeats Rafael Nadal in the final of the ATP World Masters Final. Nadal ends the year as World No. 1.
Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar retires from all forms of cricket following India's 2-0 win in a test series against the West Indies. He holds the world records for most ODI and test runs scored, most ODI and test centuries and most ODI appearances, becoming the 1st cricketer to hit an ODI double century and 100 international centuries.

The Czech Republic won the Davis Cup in tennis, defeating Serbia 3-2 in the final.
Magnus Carlsen of Norway defeated India's 5-time world champion Vishwanathan Anand 6.5 - 3.5 to become the new World Chess Champion, in the championship held in Chennai. Carlsen already held the world records of the highest ever ELO rating of 2872 and being the youngest ever world No. 1.
Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull wins the 2013 Brazilian Grand Prix in Formula 1. He equaled Michael Schumacher's record of 9 straight race wins.
December
Germany wins the 2013 men's junior Hockey World Cup held in New Delhi.
FC Bayern Munich cap off a successful year by winning the Club World Cup in Morocco 2-0, defeating local side Raja Casablanca in the final.
7 time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher goes into a coma after suffering a heavy fall while skiing in the French Alps.
South Africa's legendary all-rounder Jacques Kallis retires from test cricket after South Africa's 1-0 test series win over India in Durban. He ends as the 3rd highest scorer in Test cricket.

Federal elections are held in Australia. The Liberal-National Coalition led by Opposition Leader Tony Abbott wins, defeating incumbent Kevin Rudd.
Presidential elections are held in Maldives with former President Mohamed Nasheed winning the most votes. However, with no candidate achieving an outright majority, a runoff election is scheduled.
The Conservative Party wins the Norwegian parliamentary elections; Erna Solberg defeating incumbent Jens Stoltenberg of Labour party for the position of Prime Minister.
The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) names Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 general elections in India.
