Peter also dabbled in the triple jump where his performance landed him at number 14.

DECEMBER 2012—JANUARY 2013

The Blue Devils wasted no time getting an invitational win in 2013. Behind the efforts of Tyron McDade and Clyde Gross, the Fred Hardy title will remain with the hosts for another year. CLYDE GLIDES TO SCHOOL RECORD IN 300—36.15

Clyde Gross entered the annual Saint Chris-topher’s Invitational hoping to lower the school record in the 55 high hurdles. Unfortunately that did not happen. A Friday afternoon snow cancelled the first day of the meet and management decided to just contest the Sat-urday portion of the meet. Not to worry, Clyde Gross scorched the field in the 300 and took down a six year old record held previously by Chris Pride. Clyde’s 36.15 effort took over three tenths of a second off the previous mark. Other noteworthy performances were turned in by Peter Lomong in the 1600 and Tyron McDade in the high jump. McDade had a narrow miss at 6’6. Newcomer Collin McLellan also placed in the 300 giving FUMA added quality in the always competitive event.

DENVER WRIGHT, MICHAEL IDZIAK

IMMEDIATE IMPACT Two of FUMA’s biggest contributors from 2012 are already winning not only races but hon-ors as well. Denver Wright was the WVIAC Athlete of the week in late December on the heels of a winning performance in his first collegiate compe-tition. Wright has recorded times of 7.06 in the 60 meter dash and 22.53 for the 200 meter dash while running for Concord. He was the overall win-ner in the 200 at the Liberty Invitational in late January. Former teammate Michael Idziak was recently named Athlete of the week in the Lone– Star Conference for his 1:54 performance in the 800. He is now a school record holder at Texas A&M Kingsville.

RATS OFF TO A GOOD START

FUMA 2012 alums Avery Martin and Staton May-field are making the transition to collegiate competition very quick with solid early season performances. Martin picked up his first win as a college runner with a 2:30.27 performance in the 1000 meter run in a meet at Youngs-town. Mayfield has moved to a much bigger pole than the one he used to win a state title nine months ago. His best vault to date is a 14’5. Martin and Mayfield have but a few days left in the infamous “Rat line.” They hope…...
