Day 3 ATHENS – CORINTH - NEMEA Today, your 4-day car rental will be delivered to your hotel. Leave Athens and drive west to the Peloponnese. Your first stop can be at the Corinth Canal. Towards the southern end of the canal lies the site of Ancient Isthmia, once the major religious centre devoted to Poseidon and location of the Isthmian Games. Continue on to Ancient Nemea, where you can visit the museum and the 400m Hellenistic stadium. At this stadium the Nemean Games were held every two years and the winners were crowned with a wreath of wild celery. Checkin at your hotel in Mantineia and head out to the Palivos Wine Estate for your first winetasting visit. The Agiorgitiko grape has adjusted perfectly here, especially to the middle of three zones of different elevations, the so-called 'semi-mountainous' zone, at elevations of between 450 and 650 meters, where the overlap of ideal conditions result in good fruit, acidity, body and color that meet the current high expectations for serious wine in world markets. Enjoy dinner at one of the cosy tavernas /restaurants in the area. Day 4 NEMEA – MYKENAE Today’s program includes visits to 2 more local Estates in Nemea. The region has a gentle beauty to which the abundance of vineyards only contributes, especially along the valley and slopes of Ancient Nemea. At your free time, you could visit the ancient citadel of Mycenae, the most powerful city-state in Greece up to 1100 BC when it was destroyed by fire. You enter the Acropolis through the famed Lion’s Gate, the oldest example of monumental sculpture in Europe. Inside, excavations have unearthed the palace complex, six royal tombs, and other significant buildings. Just outside of the Acropolis is a magnificent example of Mycenaean architecture, the beehive tomb once thought to be that of Agamemnon. Overnight in Mantineia. Day 5 ARGOS - NAUPLION Check out and drive south to Argos. Two more visits to local estates are scheduled. Continue on to Naulion. After checkin, take the opportunity to stroll through the old town or while away the hours in Nauplion’s Syndagma (Constitution Square).Don’t miss the Palamidi fortress, built in 1711,set on its 700-foot peak. You may also admire the artifacts of the Archaeological Museum, the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation or the fascinating Komboloï Museum, a museum dedicated to worry beads. Tonight you may enjoy a lovely fish dinner by the sea. Overnight in Nauplion.
