Debating Camp Reports The Katoomba Debating Camp is awesome. We learnt a lot of debating skills and we had a debate on the last day. It was fun! The food there was excellent and so were the cabins. Definitely recommend the camp.

Andre

At debating camp we had lots of fun learning more about debating. For the debate we were in groups of three. I was with Kayla and Harrison. Our group was named Acacia and we were versing Indigo. My team won. Yah! Ella, Harry, Andre and I were on the nega-tive side. There was a lady named Mrs Paddington, but we had to call her Mrs Beautiful. Mrs Beautiful had long red fake nails. We played lots and lots of games. We played a game called hot air balloon. This is a game where there are six people and they have a career. Then they have to explain why they should stay on the balloon because only five people were allowed on the balloon. Then everyone votes who has to leave the balloon. The next game we played was where we split up into groups and the judges have to call out something and each group chooses someone to do that thing. Each group has a name and the judges decide who will win that round. The debates started at 1pm and went to 3pm and that’s when we came home. On the day we arrived we went to the park for two hours but the next it was pouring down rain so we couldn’t go. Anyway we had a fun time. My favourite parts were the debates, games and the park time. My least favourite part was sleeping. During the night my sleeping bag fell off the bed so I had to go down the bunk and grab it. It was freezing.

Emma

At debating camp we had lots of fun learning more and more about debating. We had a debate and the topic was “We should allow celebrities to have their privacy.” We were in groups of three but some people went home sick and some kids didn’t turn up. I was on the negative side even though I lost I still had lots of fun.

My team was called the Bottlebrush. Emma was in Acacia, Andre was in the Waratahs and Harry was in Dai-sy. We played night games from 8pm until 9:30pm. We played a game called category where you were in groups and one person from each group had to go up in front of every-one and do something like pretend to be a monkey. I had to do the cat walk, it was embarrassing. We had to do work till 7pm. From 1pm until 3pm we did our debates. Another game played was hot air bal-loon. Their were six students or teachers that had to pretend to be in a hot air balloon but there is only room for five people. Everyone who

is in the balloon had a job and they have to persuade us to keep them in the balloon. All the students and teachers who aren’t in the balloon have to vote for the one who hasn’t persuaded them and whoever has the most votes is out. It was fun but we had to come home eventually.
