Windrush Stable Therapeutic Riding Centre has been helping persons with disabilities, for the past 40 years, achieve personal growth and accomplishment primarily through a program which encourages a special partnership with horses. It has been only through the passionate help of our instructors, volunteers, generous contributions of our donors, and the support of our local Milton community that we have been able to, and will be able to keep doing this.

Windrush StableTherapeutic Riding Centre

Windrush Stable Therapeutic Riding Centre started as a dream 40 years ago to help persons with disabilities achieve personal growth and accomplishment primarily through a program which encourages a special partner-ship with horses.

Windrush Stables has brought the sport of kings to the most common disabilities in Canada. Windrush Stables plans to evolve into a facility to help people with physical, mental and developmental disabilities reach their full potential by creating programs that cater to learning life skills.

It’s time that disabilities are seen as abilities.

With the passionate help of our instructors, volunteers, generous contributions of our donors, and the support of our local Milton community, we have been able to transform the lives of countless children in the Oakville, Burl-ington, Milton, Mississauga and Georgetown areas of Ontario, Canada. Our success relies on the fact that Windrush Stables is the only Therapeutic Riding program in Ontario that has one on one classes that are affordable due to the volunteers and corporate sponsors. With eighty percent of our students under the age of 25, and the govern-ment only supporting school programs up to the age of 21, funding isn’t widely available for programs like ours despite it’s time-and-time-again proven benefits.

Heart To Heart

The goal of this program is to help children attain the skills necessary to establish on-going friendships. While participating in activities such as role playing, nature walks, studying equine behaviour as well as watching herd dynamics, we offer your child an opportunity to understand how their actions are interpreted by others. This is an eight week un-mounted program. The sessions will be grouped according to age.

Therapeutic Riding

Therapeutic riding has been the primary focus of Windrush Stable T.R.C. for over 20 years. Horseback riding offers a chance to be successful at a unique activity while receiving educational

Horsemanship Program

This program offers students a unique opportunity to create a meaningful relationship and bond with an equine companion. Our un-mounted lessons provide individuals with special needs the chance to learn and develop equine knowledge, understand the social behaviours of horses, safe horse handling practices and barn management skills.

WHAT WE

DO?

Windrush Stable provides one on one half hour private lessons to children and adults with a physical or developmental disability. The Therapeutic Riding Program has a minimum of three volunteers and one instructor for the student. Horseback riding offers a chance at a unique activity while receiving educational and therapeutic benefits. The relationship students develop with their equine and volunteer partners promotes emotional and social growth.

PROGRAMS

School Groups

Windrush provides a fun and educational time for groups of 8 to 16 students. This experience is custom designed and can be tailored for school age students with spe-cial needs or adult day programs. This 2 hour activity includes a tour, grooming and leading horses, a ride on our mechanical horse and an equine themed craft. This may be considered a “one time” activity or a series of outings.
