    Section 1

    Requirements

    Before configuring a printer on the Windows 2003 Server, make sure you havethe following information or configuration ready, based on site requirements.

    HP Jet Direct Setup

    _____ A printer connected through an HP JetDirect External Print Serverfollowing the Corporate Distributed Systems Windows 2000/XP

    IP Printing Installation document.

    _____ Static IP Address:

    (designated for the printer) _______________________________

    _____ Printer Name: _______________________________Created according to the AD Standard Naming Convention.

    _____ Any special print driver needed for the particular model printer installed

    on the server. This driver must be Windows 2003 compatible.

    Perform Section 2 to configure a printer share using the HP Jet Direct print

    device.

    TCP/IP Printer Setup

    _____ A printer connected directly to the network, with no HP JetDirect External

    Print device.

    _____ Static IP Address:

    (designated for the printer) _______________________________

    _____ Printer Name: _______________________________

    Created according to the AD Standard Naming Convention.

    _____ Any special print driver needed for the particular model printer installedon the server. This driver must be Windows 2003 compatible.

    Perform Section 3 to configure a printer share that is directly connected to the

    network with no HP Jet Direct print device.

    Create A Printer Share HP Jet Direct

    Perform this procedure to create a Standard TCP/IP Port Printer Share on aWindows 2003 server that uses an HP JetDirect External Print Device.

    1. Log on to the Windows 2003 server with an Administrative ID.

    2. At the taskbar, click on Start | Settings | Printers and Faxes.

    3. Double-click on the Add Printer icon.

    4. At the Welcome to the Add Printer Wizard screen, clickNext.

    5. At the Local or Network Printer screen, select Local Printerattached to this computer. Unselect Automatically Detect and InstallMy Plug and Play Printer. ClickNext.

    6. At the Select a Printer Portscreen, select Create a new port.7. From the drop-down menu, select Standard TCP/IP Port, clickNext.

    8. At the Welcome to the Add Standard TCP/IP PrinterPort Wizard screen, clickNext.

    9. At the Add Port window:

    1. Type the name or IP address of the printer in the Printer Name or IP

    Address field.

    2. The Port Name is entered automatically. Change the Port Name to

    RAW1, RAW2 orRAW3, depending on which Jet Direct port the

    printer is attached to.

    3. Click Next.

    10. At the Additional Port Information Required screen, underDevice Type select the appropriate HP JetDirect Device Port that the

    print device is attached to, and clickNext.

    11. If the HP JetDirect device has multiple ports, you will be prompted to

    select which port this printer is connected to. Select the appropriate portnumber based on the RAW# entered in the Add Port screen. ClickNext.

    12. At the Completing the Add Standard TCP/IP PrinterPort Wizard screen, verify that the information entered for the printeris correct, and clickFinish.

    13. At the Add Printer Wizard screen, select the manufacturer andmodel of the printer.

    If you have a disk for the printer driver, clickHave Diskand follow the

    on-screen prompts.

    If you do nothave a disk, clickNext.

    14. At the Name Your Printer screen, type the printer name in thePrinter name field, and clickNext.

    NOTE: If the printer being created will be used by OS/2

    workstations (for example, SCS or HFCS), create a name

    that is 14 characters long or less. The Make and Model

    fields may need to be abbreviated because of thisrestriction. Refer to the examples below.

    NOTE: Printer objects must follow standard naming conventions.

    They are to be named in the following format:

    PR_

    Make andModel are mandatory. Type, Function, and

    Count are optional. There are no spaces in the name.

    For example:

    Regular:PR_HPLaser5siColor01PR_HPLaser5siPR_IBMINFOPRINT1130

    Abbreviated for OS/2:PR_HPLJ5siCL01PR_HPLJ5siPR_IBMINFO1130

    15. In the Printer Sharing screen, verify that the printer name is thesame as the name entered in the Name Your Printer screen, andclickNext.

    16. If the Share as name is longer than eight characters, a warning message

    will be displayed stating that some DOS workstations will not be able to

    access the printer. Click on Yes to indicate that you want to use the share

    name.

    17. At the Location and Comment screen, type the location anddescription of the printer, and clickNext.

    NOTE: Printer locations must conform to a standard naming

    convention. They are to be defined in the following

    format:

    BLDG/OfficeLocation/Floor/Section/Office #

    The BLDGmnemonic is the only mandatory entry. The remaining fields

    are optional in any combination with a forward slash ( / ) separating each

    entry.

    For example:NJRAR/3rdFloor/Quad C/RO3C-053

    18. At the Print Test Page screen, clickYes to print a page, and clickNext.

    19. At the Completing the Add Printer Wizard screen, verifythat the information on the screen is correct, and clickFinish.

    If there are errors with the information listed, clickCancel.

    20. If the test page printed, the printer has been successfully installed,

    clickOK.

    If the test page did notprint, clickTroubleshoot and follow the

    instructions on how to resolve any problems. ClickFinish to close

    window.

    Create A Printer Share TCP/IP Port

    Perform this procedure to create a Standard TCP/IP Port Printer Share on aWindows 2003 server that connects directly to the network.

    1. Log on to the Windows 2003 server with an Administrative ID.
