from consumer to creator

Discuss these themes:"I don't think that students are born digitally native. I

think kids are born consuming media, but not

producing media".

"Part of the opportunity is learning the content which is very much a

20th century idea around education. But in the 21st century, it's learning the tools, the skills of

remaking that content and becoming the creator and the

producer."

Introduce yourself to your classPerspective learning and interviewing skills are highlighted in

this project. Instead of each student making a self-portrait, they each have to present themselves to a classmate or group of classmates, who must “see” them and then present them to the class. This is a very good community-building exercise at any time and especially at the beginning of the school year.

Students write their own interview questions. They record the interview as they engage the interviewee about a passion of theirs (a sport or hobby or favorite place, for example) and focus on the family and cultural background of the subject. They use voiceover narration and perhaps audio clips from the recorded interview.

The process1) Storyboard using Word or OneNote

• Plan Interview Questions• Sketch out the layout of the video

2) Use the camera tool in the Start Screen to record video and take pictures

3) You should have a mix of still images with voice-over narration andrecorded video. Additionally, try creating one AutoCollage to use in your video.

4) You will need a title screen and the credits at the end should include citations for any image you use from the internet.

5) Finally, add music using Songsmith, or by using a Royalty Free mp3 from the internet.
