you own stock in Home Depot, “you’re

This New Year’s Eve will be especially

exciting because even as I mark the start of a

new phase of my life (just turned 40, new homeowner,

firmly entrenched

in raising a

spirited duo, etc.)

I get to ring in

2005 like the

crazy kid I hope

to remain,

plucking the

strings of my

Fender bass guitar

on stage with my closest friends.

Our band “The

Mugshotz” continues

to evolve and expand

its play list and I think we’ve improved a lot

this year—stray dogs don’t howl outside our

practices anymore.

So life is good here in the Beach.

And how can it not be? This is the

time of year for counting blessings

and if you live in this area, you’ll soon run out of fingers to count

them on. We feel lucky to be able to

raise our family in a town where

you can’t drive five minutes

without waving at someone you

know. Here’s hoping our

interactions go beyond smiling and

waving from afar. May your

holidays be bright, your egg nog be

“light” and your New Year be pure

delight. Please stay in touch...

My New Year’s Resolutions

Win a large lottery

Run for the presidency of a small country

Make room for at least one vehicle in my two-car garage

Find a cure for stupidity

Host my own reality TV show in a tropical location

Eat only “good” cholesterol (i.e. no more cheap chocolate)

Assume all responsibility for my actions except the ones that are someone else’s fault

Walk a mile in someone’s shoes before I criticize them. That way if they get really mad, they’re a mile away and barefoot

Exclude whale meat from my diet

No more falling for the old “Hey, try putting your tongue on this frozen flagpole…”

T here’s something magical about this time of year

that makes us want to reach out to all the special

people in our lives. We want to share a little bit

of our news and extend heartfelt best wishes that all your

dreams may come true. We feel so grateful for all our blessings this year; two

healthy daughters, a new home, deeply satisfying

relationships with family and close friends.

It was such a whirlwind of a year—when will I NOT

say that, I wonder?—and the line between home life and

work life was again blurry this year. Last year we wore

ourselves out getting ready to put our house on the

market and learned to empathize with home sellers. This

year, building and moving into our new home was a 10-

month process and I empathize even more with new

home buyers.

It was a pretty complex and at times stressful project but we were lucky in many ways, including having the

construction timeline coincide with Mary’s year off to

nurture new baby Joss, a.k.a. Little Miss Happy Pants.

Sure, I’m biased, but I don’t recall ever seeing a happier

baby… other than her older sister Holly (who turns four

in January). Holly has been playful, proud and protective

of her little sister and adapts wonderfully to new

situations. Mary now takes her to the Base Borden

“playschool” on weekdays now that Mary has gone back

to work. When asked what she did all day, Holly replies

“nothing but PLAY PLAY PLAY” which to us is the perfect day.

And special

thanks to the

services of the

World’s

Greatest

Electrician

(my brother

Dave). I was

able to learn

firsthand how

to wire a house when it’s

minus 30

degrees

outside. And

by the way, if ~Bruce~

Happy Holidays! From our home to yours...
