ACCOMPLISHMENTS

¨ Has designed and installed a prototype direct drive wind turbine at the NSF Anartica McMurdo Station

COMMERCIALIZATION¨ The results of the Phase II work has attracted the

attention of the Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Science Foundation for application in small villages throughout Northern Alaska. Consequently, the DOE has given a contract to Northern for $600K to build an advanced generator for the system. In addition, the DOE is expected to issue a series of Phase III contracts for over $3M to design, build, and test several prototypes specifically for Alaskan conditions

GOVERNMENT/SCIENCE APPLICATIONS¨ Prototype installations of wind turbine in Alaskan

Village or Kotzebue is progressing

INNOVATIONDevelopment of a wind power system for the generator of electricity which must operate under extreme environmental conditions such as those encountered at the South Pole or in the Martian atmosphere
