Preliminary Design
Initial Model and Design
Magnet
Rotor blades
Gears
• Four fan blades at 45° angle
• 1.6 to 1 gear ratio
• Neodymium magnet
• 30 gauge magnet wire
Mechanical Aspects
Construction issues:• Basic design layout
• Stability of the Fan
• Reducing the friction
• A more efficient generator than our test generator
Project Expenses
• $8.50- 30 gauge enamel coated wire• $9.00- Neodymium magnet• $15.00 – Rotor Blades• $5.00 – Nuts and botls• $7.00 – Wood
$42.50 – Total

Possible Improvements
• Increase amount of wire coiled• Increase the wire gauge• Increase magnetic field• Make higher gear ratio• Reduce friction• Use nonmagnetic materials for housing of magnet
ConclusionDespite construction issues we were able to produce a wind
generator that successfully met the guidelines.
