Locogencreatedajointventurecompanywiththelandownertodevelopamedium-scalewindprojectatDowhillFarminSouthAyrshire.Differentscalesofturbinewereconsidered,witha500kWdevelopmentbeingchosenasoptimal.

Locogencarriedoutallconsultationandplanningworkwiththelocal
authority(SouthAyrshireCouncil)tosecureconsentfora77m-tall
500kWturbine.Twelvemonthsofwindmonitoringhadalreadybeen
completedatthefarm,demonstratinganexcellentwindresource.
ThroughongoingdiscussionswithScottishPower,theprojectsecuredan
excellentpointofconnectiononthe11kVlinerunningthroughthefarm.
AnEnerconE48turbinewasconstructedatthesiteinlate2013andhas
been operational since the start of 2014.
Locogenarrangedfinancefortheproject’sconstructiononbehalfofthe
partnershipandprovidedaturnkeydesignandbuildmanagementservice
tooverseetheprocessfromstarttofinish.
Oncompletionoftheconstructionphase,responsibilityfortheproject
waspassedtoLocogen’sin-houseAssetManagementTeam.Thishas
ensuredanexcellentstarttotheventure,withprojectavailabilityinthe
firstyearexceeding97%,aratesignificantlyaboveinitialestimates.
