SHOPPING & BOWLING IN BASINGSTOKE Wednesday 13th July

Festival Place is Hampshire’s regional shopping destination. It is situated in the heart of

Basingstoke town centre and is home to 165 stores, 28 restaurants, bars and cafes, a sports

centre, library, multi screen cinema and night club. The Bowlplex boasts 26 state-of-the-art

bowling lanes, fantastic food and drink and a friendly environment for all ages! The students

will have time to ‘shop till they drop’ and enjoy an evening making memories with their new

friends from the Junior Summer Centre!

LONDON: BIG BEN & TRAFALGAR SQUARE THEN SHOPPING AT WESTFIELD INDOOR SHOPPING MALL Saturday 16th July London is a world famous destination and in this trip students will be guided to see some of the most fabulous and iconic landmarks in the world! Walking along the River Thames, they will get to get close up to the famous Houses or Parliament and the Big Ben, with the clock tower recently named the ‘Elizabeth Tower’ in honour of the Queen’s Jubilee in 2012, and walk past Westminster Abbey and along Whitehall to reach Trafalgar Square, the centre of London! With its lions, Nelson’s Column and the National Gallery, this is an unmissable destination, and students will get to see the surrounding area as well, and buy a souvenir or two! Once the students have taken in the sights of London we will head to one of the biggest shopping malls in London – Westfield!

THE MAKING OF HARRY POTTER, Warner Bros. Studios Sunday 17th July The Harry Potter film series made Leavesden its home for more than ten years, and here our students will be able to discover the magic behind the scenes! Walking through the Great Hall, Albus Dumbledore’s Office, the Weasley Family’s home, Diagon Alley and Hermione, Ron and Harry’s classrooms, before walking along the carriages of the Hogwarts Express, they will be captivated by Hogwarts’ magic atmosphere – and have the opportunity to try the famous ButterBeer, Harry’s favourite drink. It’s non-alcoholic so even the youngest students can try it out (around £4). There will be plenty of time to visit the shop and buy a wand, a uniform or any other little souvenir from the shop at the end of the visit.

WINDSOR CASTLE Wednesday 20th July & Wednesday 3rd August Windsor Castle is an official residence of The Queen and the largest occupied castle in the world! A Royal home and fortress for over 900 years, the Castle remains a working palace today. Students will be able to walk around the State Apartments, extensive suites of rooms at the heart of the working palace. For part of the year visitors can also see the Semi State rooms, which are some of the most splendid interiors in the castle. They are furnished with treasures from the Royal Collection including paintings by Holbein, Rubens, Van Dyck and Lawrence, fine tapestries and porcelain, sculpture and armour. Within the Castle complex there are many additional attractions, including the Drawings Gallery, Queen Mary's dolls' house, and the fourteenth-century St. George's Chapel, the burial place of ten sovereigns and setting for many Royal weddings.

LONDON: NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM and V & A MUSEUM, plus SHOPPING AT WESTFIELD MALL Saturday 23rd July

The Natural History Museum in London is a museum that exhibits a vast range of specimens from various segments of natural history. It is one of three major museums in the area, and often younger learners get lost in the variety of animals they can learn about, from dinosaurs to mammals, from marine life to crocodiles – the choice is vast! The Victoria and Albert Museum (often abbreviated as the V&A), London, is the world's largest museum of decorative arts and design. It was founded in 1852 and named after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and it was born out of these reigning couple’s love for art, which brought them to collect a vast amount of objects from all over the world, including ceramics, ironwork, silver, furniture, jewellery, glass, textiles, costumes, medieval artefacts, sculptures, prints, drawings and photographs. Once the students have enjoyed the museums we will head to one of the biggest shopping malls in London – Westfield!

WINCHESTER Sunday 24th July

Winchester is crammed with hidden treasures just waiting to be explored! In these medieval streets students will be able to visit Winchester Cathedral and Wolvesey Castle before strolling along the River Itchen to The Hospital of St Cross or visit the largest Farmers' Market in the UK. And hands up if you’ve heard of the Round Table? According to legend, this is the table around which King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table met, and it has been famous for centuries for its associations with the legendary 'Once and Future King'. Although we now know that it originated many centuries later, the table’s mystique still remains...

MINI OLYMPICS Wednesday 27th July Join in with an action packed mini Olympics! This fun afternoon will keep the students active and help them build friendships, while promoting a healthy competitive environment and having fun! The Mini Olympics will take place outdoors if the weather is nice, or in one of the many indoor sports halls. The Junior Summer Centre Team will organise lots of different competitions, and encourage, support and act as referees for each game, ensuring everyone gets involved in the various activities – and of course give prizes to winners!

LONDON GREENWICH & THAMES CRUISE, FOLLOWED BY SHOPPING AT WESTFIELD MALL Saturday 30th July Greenwich is where hemispheres meet and royal heritage combines with contemporary architecture. It’s home to a World Heritage Site and Britain’s only urban cable car. Students can wander through Greenwich Park to the Royal Observatory and the Planetarium, explore Britain’s momentous naval history at the National Maritime Museum or take a selfie crossing the Prime Meridian of the World – longitude zero. After some time exploring what Greenwich has to offer we will board a boat and take a Thames Cruise from Greenwich Pier to Embankment, taking in the sights of the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, London Bridge and finally arriving at Embankment. We will then take the Coach to Westfield Shopping Mall for a short time shopping.

THORPE PARK Sunday 31st July One of the first theme parks in the UK, Thorpe Park has rides and slides for all ages! The rollercoaster rides are among the highest and fastest in the world, while for the less adventurous the lazy river, water zorbing, or the pool will be more fun. Just pack your costume, towel and flip flops for this fun day out! Don’t panic parents: our staff will be with them at all times and carefully select and allow age-appropriate rides to students at our Junior Summer Centre.
