Wilson Middle School 3838 Orange Avenue San Diego, CA 92105 Updated June 2016 Sub-district: D Cluster: Hoover Year School Opened: 1924 Grades: 6-8 Originally Wilson Middle School was built in 1924 as a two-story colonial style school house, then known as Wilson Junior High School, in the then thriving suburban community along El Cajon Blvd. In 1959 more classroom buildings were added to accommodate the growing population. The current campus buildings were constructed in 1964, all the original buildings were demolished as part of the project, except for the locker room building. The students are from various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds and make up approximately 650 student enrollment with over 75% of the students speak a language other than English with 43% English learners. Wilson is situated on an 11-acre lot between El Cajon Blvd. and Orange Avenue in the City Heights community. The campus has over 152,000 square feet of facilities that include eight permanent buildings for administrative and learning environments as well as nine portable classrooms and two shaded lunch courts. Wilson Middle and Central Elementary Major Rebuild

Based on a comprehensive planning study, the District conclud-ed that the Wilson Middle School campus will be redeveloped to house both Wilson Middle and Central Elementary. Wilson Mid-dle will be located to the west of the lot. There will be a centrally located joint-use field and collaborative buildings. Wilson’s structures will consist of two three-story buildings and one build-ing dedicated to food services. To accommodate the demand for parking, there will be an underground structure.

Wilson Middle new buildings will consist of:

Approximately 30 classrooms, seven science classrooms/labs, with capacity to add more when needed

Administration offices

Health center

Media center

Food service

Performing arts center
