the first time in history a politician is actually going to be missed.According to Professor Chew Kok from Imperial College London,“We have lost an international hero and a symbol of the resilienthuman spirit. Nelson Mandel’s death marks the first time a politi-cian will ever be missed by many and potentially a turning point
in global politics”

Christmas in LondonWhat’s on in London this Christmas?
Christmas LightsLondon’s Christmas lights give the capital’s streets a glittering festive feel
every year, and in 2013 there are plenty of big names ready to flick the
switch and turn on the lights and decorations in Oxford Street, Covent
Garden, Regent Street, Westfield and more.
Christmas Markets
Among a raft of special festive events you’ll find foodie gifts, hand-crafted
pressies and usually a bit of glühwein to help you get into that merry spirit.
Some of the best are: ‘Christmas at Kew’, ‘Handmade Christmas at Greenwich’,
‘Dalston Christmas Market’ and the ‘Southbank Centre Christmas Market’
Ice Skating
With fairy lights and Christmas trees set to the backdrop of London’s stun-
ning institutions, a trip to an ice rink is a must-do for the views alone. You
are spoilt for choice in London with amazing ice-skating rinks at the Natural
History Museum, Canary Wharf, Hampton Court, Somerset House and Hyde
Park
Christmas Carols
If there’s anything that’s guaranteed to get you in the festive mood, it’s a
Christmas carol service – and there’s nowhere more impressive than one
by candlelight at the Royal Albert Hall. Happening on the 14, 21, 22, 23 of
December at either 7pm or 8pm; and 24 December (at 2.30pm and 7pm).
Reindeer Patting
You can get up close and personal with Rudolph, Dasher and Blitzen, the
wonderful festive experience is finished off nicely with a trip round Santa’sGrotto at London Zoo.

port of the week: Extreme Ironing
les: Part extreme sport, part performance art, part household chore,
treme ironing requires its partakers to carry an ironing board to
emote location, such as the top of a mountain, and iron items of
othing. According to the official website, extreme ironing is “theest danger sport that combines the thrills of an extreme outdoor
tivity with the satisfaction of a well-pressed shirt.”
igins: The true origin of extreme ironing is a topic that’s hotly
bated by... we’re guessing probably not that many people. Some
treme ironers reckon the sport started as a result of the band
onster Magnet ironing on an asteroid in the video for “Negasonic
enage Warhead” from their 1995 album Dopes to Infinity, whereas
hers claim it started two years later in 1997 in Leicester, England,
hen knitwear factory-worker Phil Shaw came home from a hard daythe job and decided to blow off some steam by rock climbing. He
uldn’t neglect his domestic duties however, so he took his ironing
ard and wrinkled laundry with him.
Sports Update: Wilson FCWilson House FC has made a good start in the Inter-halls Football league for
the season 2013-2014, having two wins and one draw.
The first match was against Holbein & Willis Jackson. Wilson’s strong mid-
field and scoring ability contributed to a comfortable 8-0 win.
Next, Wilson House FC played against Southside. It was a bad game in terms
of quality. Both teams committed many turnovers in midfield. On the first
half, Wilson was unable to score while having many chances, because of the
very strong defensive line of Southside.
However, Southside managed to score a lucky goal. Wilson came back to the
game and made it 1-1 in the beginning of second half. In terms of technical
ability, Wilson was the best team on the pitch, so after many chances the
second goal came on the 89th minute of the game from a bicycle kick by
the striker Elliot Roocroft. A thrilling game ended to a 2-1 win for Wilson
House FC!
The last game was against Pembridge Hall. The bad weather conditions
along with Pembridge’s defensive style of play did not allow Wilson House
to score, ending in a game with no goals.
