Executive Summery
“The final project presented herein as part of the Writing for Public Relations Mass Comm 4313
course will not be implemented in a real and practical setting, therefore the Evaluation phase is
not included. The Evaluation is recognized as a vital part of the RPIE process in Public
Relations.”
We at Wilson Core have put together, what we believe to be is, a successful promotional
campaign plan for our client Snap Inc. formally known as Snapchat. Our job was to fabricate a
tactical plan to be put into place that will give Snap Inc.’s new product, Spectacles, the success
they are hungry for. To do so we have put together a SWOT analysis of the situation, along with
a full press kit to be used at Snap Inc.’s disposal. We have also created an event that will give
reporters real insights into the new wave product in smart glass eye wear. We suggest a meet and
greet event to be put together with a handful of Snap Inc.’s developers team so they can share
what Snapchat user can look forward to. As well as, tell and perhaps show off the new product.
Wilson Core has also put together a few different tactics such as radio media tours, magazine
shows, product placement and radio promotions. A breakdown of those tactics is as followed.
Wilson Core
TACTIC: RADIO MEDIA TOURS
Spokesperson conducting a series of interviews from one location
Interviews recorded for later use or broadcast live
Example: User’s positive opinion of snapchat and the new product
TACTIC: MAGAZINE SHOWS
Magazines can also place these stories not only in print but online as well.
Contact most popular (based on analytics) magazines who have a deal with Snapchat already
for their “feed” seen by any public user
Human interest features or in-depth investigative reporting
Used to increase exposure and generate news business
TACTIC: PRODUCT PLACEMENTS
Promote company product and service
Plugs (market towards athletes and celebrities who are involved and active
Negotiated by product publicists and talent agencies
Cost-effective publicity
TACTIC: RADIO PROMOTIONS
Tell that product can be easily used without having your phone constantly out at events
like concerts and other times where you would rather be hands free
Generate publicity.

SWOT Analysis/Research
Recently Snapchat, newly rebranded as Snap Inc. has very recently unveiled a new
product. Their new product is their version of smart glass eye wear given the name Spectacles.
The glasses with be made available this fall. Spectacles is the first product by Snap Inc.
Spectacles are practically sunglasses with a connected video camera compatible with either an
IPhone or Android through Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Much like the app, the camera can only record
for up to ten seconds and light up when it is doing so. Other companies, such as Google, have
created smart glasses before and those products have yet to really catch on. However, Snap Inc.
believes that their glasses are a fun new spin on the idea giving them a purpose by having them
cooperate with the social media application. But how can Snap Inc., now a camera positioned
company, succeed in selling smart glasses where as companies like Google has failed. It will be
Wilson Core’s job to help promote their new product for their already existing social media
service and have the first successful selling smart glasses.
First research must be conducted to find out how the audience is responding to
Spectacles. Their home page accessed from Google was not the most functional or responsive
website so a remaking of their newly branded Snap Inc. should show a much-needed updated
website that adds promotion for the new product, showcasing it action in with videos and
promotion through their social application.
For research, Wilson Core suggests a test run with a focus group where the product is tested
with a mixed group of individuals who range in their average use of the social application. From
Wilson Core there we can assess the nature of how the glasses will affect heavy, moderate and low level users.
Meaning they either use the application a lot to rarely using. This will give a strong idea on who
we should target more because of how they responded to the Spectacles during the test runs.
Subjects will be given the device and walked through the basic capabilities. Afterwards through
short interviews and Likert-style surveys we will be able to have qualitative feedback on the
product giving us a scale of the strength and weakness of the product. From there we can use the
research to make an efficient program to make a successful public relations promotional
campaign.
Snap Inc. new headquarters are in Venice, California and as of August 2015, they house
roughly 330 employees. They were founded by CEO Evan Spiegel in September of 2011.
Wilson Core Strengths: Being the company that created
Snapchat, an application with over two hundred million users. Snap Inc. will have data on their users such as demographics that
will be essential for targeting. Snap Inc. will have a direct line to all the potential
consumers. They can directly send advising using custom videos showing their recognizable ghost figures displaying the
product. Another strength is how easy it will be for
free promotions. Such as through the companies that already pay to be on their daily feeds.
Another strength is that this product is engaging for all ages and has not limitations
on who can operate the camera glasses. Snap Inc. has a global reach through Snapchat give us strong social media presence.
The price for Spectacles is significantly lower than any previous smart glasses $130
compared to over a thousand dollars
Weaknesses: One weakness is that some
people just simply do not want to pay when they can simply just keep using the free social application.
Spectacles has a bold look, some may not like the appearance of the product.
To date, other smart glass products have not been successful. This may have created a preexisting negative attitude toward such
products. At a glance, the glasses look very fragile and
easy to break, perhaps we should show that they can withstand a drop from a significant height and still be operational.
Other than a camera on your face the glasses do not add any brand new features to the
application. There is no additional function for the glasses. they simply offer a hand free way to record videos without using your
phone.
Opportunities: The social media industry is easily the biggest trend for today’s generations. It is a major part of our modern
culture. New reports have shown that during the recent Presidential Debate the favored
social media application used was Snapchat and not their highly-known competitor Twitter using their new live streaming. This
shows that people are becoming more drawn to Snapchat meaning consumers may be
gravitating toward Snapchat making it soon to be the most popular social medium. Recent photos with models promoting the product
give it this fall fashion feel and functionality perfect for the lunch this fall. This gives the
product a sense that it will be fashionable with your favorite fall outfits. The opportunities for this product is endless,
people will be able to stay connected without having to stay connected with their phones.
Perfect for concerts, amusement parks and other live events where you would rather be hands free but still want to catalog all your
memories.
Threats: One threat that will be faced is if there is even a strong demand in the market for the Spectacles. People have seen the
invention of smart glasses but they have yet to really catch on.
A potential threat down the line could be the invention of a new line of smart glasses that have the same function to simply record, with
perhaps a better camera and other capabilities such as internet access and smaller screen pop
ups on the lenses. I cannot see any threat from the legislative or political areas. Nor environmental, unless
after buying the product people are not pleased and Spectacles not disposed of
properly.

Three-fold Newsletter design/content
Cover page: the cover page should display the Snapchat logo/mascot of the playful ghost
wearing the new product Spectacles. This will make the quick connection that the newsletter is
connected to Snapchat thanks to their recognizable logo.
First Page on left: this will display what Snapchat has created (Spectacles) with information
about Snapchat’s new brand and company name. A photo showcasing the product with on one
the models wearing the product should act like a banner with the text of information below the
photo.
Middle page: the middle page will tell all the details of the product including all of Spectacles
capabilities and specs. Such as what camera they use, fact that it is Bluetooth, the resolution of
the videos user will be able to make, etc. A photo of Spectacles and the packaging they placed in
should be placed above the text much like the first fold page.
Page on the right: This page will be dedicated to the unique and only way (as of right now) to
purchase Spectacles. The readers will be informed about the price and the unique vending
machines. By making the vending machines so rare it created a stronger need for fans to have
them. The Snapbot vending machines location are very secretive and pop up like magic
overnight. Consumers are only given a 24-hour notice in advance of where to find them so they
can get a head start in the expected long lines. Above the information on how someone can get
their hands on their own pair of Spectacles should be a photo of the interactive vending machine
so the consumer knows what they look like plus giving an idea of what to expect.

Tweets/Editorial Posts Due to the secretive nature of how Spectacles are released to the public, we at Wilson Core
suggest that any social media post revel the location of a new Snapbot. As well as, make additional post for news platforms. Informing the news outlets about the up incoming meet
and greet we have previously suggested occur at Snapchat’s headquarters.
1) First Post: This post should let the public/followers of Snapchat that a new Snapbot will be available, and should also tell me that the machine will not stay
in one spot for too long. This post should be made 24 hours before the vending machine is active for those who wish to purchase Spectacles. The reason for this
is to give a sense of urgency and rarity to the product making the attitude for the
purchasing behavior greater, resulting in a higher chance for purchase. Post should include a photo of the Snapbot on site, with a popular land marker
or monument to hint at where it will be next. Hashtags should read “# Snapchat, # Spectacles, and # Snapbot”.
2) Second Post: The second post should be made the moment when the Snapbot is operational and give the exact location of where to find your own pair of
Spectacles. This will give the audience a direct message to those who are looking for a pair on where to get them if they are not already in line thank to the first
post. Image should show the Snapbot dispensing a pair of Spectacles as if they are there for the taking. This shows the product and where to get it and that you
can get it ASAP. Hashtags should have #address/location, #Snapchat, and #Specs. 3) Third Post(s): This post is mainly made to be directed to the news platforms
from our media distribution list. This will tell them about the chance they get to have to meet those who invented Specs. And let them know how they can do it. Hashtags should contain a direct line to the news platform in question. Along with #Snapchat, #Specs, #Snapchat headquarters location and what time the event will take place.

has since traded in the mascot for a new one; when he begun the next chapter of his life
as a Bobcat at Texas State University. Hailing from the small towns of Beaumont and
Georgetown, Texas; Eric has made quite the change to the new college life style. Just
the size of the school and population of a single classroom came as a surprise. Not
every day would he see a classroom with more students than his graduating class.
However, outside of class he still manages to keep up his hobbies and love for
art. Whether it is films, videogames, comic books or paintings. Eric shows a passion
towards those who help create art that can give the mind a break from our busy
realities. When Eric is not reading, watching cinema or playing games; he is typically
practicing on instruments or hanging out outside participating in sports with his old
friends who, now, also attend Texas State University.
