August 15, 2017 started a new 4-H enrollment year on 4-H Connect! ALL 4-H families will be required to re-enroll for the 2017-2018 4-H year. All 4-H members and adults need to complete both a family and individual profile for membership and to be able to register for events.

If you are re-enrolling and already have an existing profile, do not create a new profile.

UPDATE your existing one with new email, physical addresses and phone numbers.

An annual participant fee is necessary for each 4-H member. This participant fee of $25, or $20 if enrolled from September 1st to December 31st, will ensure that the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service can continue to deliver the highest quality 4-H program possible.

Adults, if you plan on serving as a volunteer in any way please enroll

as a VOLUNTEER on 4-H Connect! Requirements to be a volunteer include: a background check every two years, pay a $10 fee every year, and complete trainings on 4-H Connect every two years.

The Calf Scramble consist of 4-H and FFA members competing with one another to catch and halter one of the calves that have been released into an open arena and to be one of the top finishers to cross the finish line. The successful scramblers receive a certificate

to aid in the purchase of a breeding animal to be raised and shown at that show the following year. Most shows require participants to be at least 14 years old and 100 lbs and to not be beyond your eleventh grade year in school. If you are interested in scrambling at one of the major shows, please contact the Extension Office.

The next Adult Leaders Meeting will be January 9, 2018 at 6:30pm in the Williamson County Conference Room. This meeting will be used to discuss fundraising, banquet, & Path To

The Plate Event. ALL club managers are encouraged to attend the Adult Leaders Meeting, project leaders and other adult volunteers are welcome to attend.

*Please remember that all Club Meeting reports are Due to Tennille Harwell by the last day of each month*

There is NOT a County Council Meeting this month. We will have a short meeting before the

Christmas Party on December 14th at 6:00pm. The Williamson County 4-H County Council will meet on January 9, 2018 from 6:30-8:00pm in the County Extension Office

Conference Room. Remember the council delegate and the president of the club are the two representatives from your club who come to the meetings and are voting delegates for the club. All 4-H members are welcome though! We will discuss fundraisers, and other county wide events. It will be a lot of fun and there will be snacks and drinks, so come and learn

about the county 4-H program and vote on exciting new 4-H opportunities.

New Procedure for Eligibility/Excuse Notes 4-H’ers should complete a separate form for each competitive event/activity in which they plan to

participate. The original form should be returned to the county Extension office 2weeks prior to the event/

activity.

NOTE: Schools requiring a copy of this form should make their copy before returning it to the student.

Parent/Guardian Section

Parent/Guardian will select the information being requested. It is either: Academic eligibility information

only. (Used to verify academic eligibility only for 4-H competitive events/activities.), or Academic

eligibility information and authorization to receive an excused absence from school. (Used to verify

academic eligibility as well as receive authorization to receive an excused absence. This would be used for

events held during school hours such as stock shows, state and national 4H contests and events, etc.)

Complete the date of activity and name of activity. (Used to notify school officials of exact dates/times a

student would be participating in a 4-H activity or representing 4-H at an event.)

Parent/Guardian signature is required. The signature of the parent/guardian confirms that this person is

aware of the academic eligibility and excused absence requirements of the Texas Education Code.

County Extension Agent Section

Extension Office will complete this section and certify the youth is a 4-H member and his/her

participation in the event. County Extension Agent (with adjunct faculty status) will sign the form.

Extension Office will then forward forms onto the school for approval.

Forms can be obtained at the CEO or on our website: https://williamson.agrilife.org/4-h-updates-news/

San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Youth Day– Saturday, February 10, 2018

Youth Day is hosted by the School Tours Committee where 4-H, FFA, & FCCLA members from across South Central Texas gather together at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo to showcase their talents, organization activities and project work. Members set up exhibits and hands-on activity booths for visitors and guests attend-ing the Stock Show & Rodeo. An additional activity will be the Wagon & Wheelbarrow Parade.

Examples of booths: Crafts: bead bracelets, Christmas card boxes, paper hats with flowers, cards for soldiers, valentines, pinecone bird feeders. Activities: face painting, fish ponds, photo identity cards, relays, shooting sports, roping, quilting, wheel of for-tune, cookie decorating, and popcorn. Exhibits: animals, "Stop the Bullying", tobacco, promote 4-H, entomology, children's literacy, citizenship, leadership, Texas Brigades, Military 4-H Youth

More Information: https://www.sarodeo.com/images/uploads/2018_Youth_Day_Sign_Up_Form.pdf

Entry Deadline: January 15, 2018

The School Tours program gives young students and their teachers the opportunity to learn about

the past and present methods of agriculture. School Tours are offered to students in Kindergarten

through third grade attending public, private and home schools.

What you will be doing: High School aged students of the 4-H, FFA and FCCLA organizations

from South Texas are invited each year to serve as Tour Guides for this committee. Tour Guides

assist in educating the students about agriculture and its valued importance, while sharpening their

leadership and responsibility skills. Tours last 2 to 2-1/2 hours.

During the tour, students will visit a number of areas where they can view exhibits and demonstra-tions. Animal Adventures and the horse center are just a couple of the areas students will visit to learn more about agriculture through interactive hand-ons displays and view live farm animals that include: cattle, swine, sheep, goat, poultry and horses. The tour also visit the Family Fair area of the grounds. This area has additional exhibits, live entertainment and petting zoos.

We will carpool as a county to San Antonio the morning of each date.
