Note: Press using a dry iron on a cotton setting. Sew blocks with right sides together using ¼" seams unless directed otherwise. Press seams in direction of arrows.
Making the AppliquésTrace letters from templates from pages 5 and 6 on to the paper side of lightweight fusible web. Leave about ½" between shapes as you trace. Cut out leaving a small margin around letters. Following manufacturer’s instructions, fuse to the wrong side of fabric 1749-55. Cut out letters on drawn lines.
Trace the spiral ten times, cut out loosely and fuse two spirals to the wrong side of each of the following fabrics: 1749-55; 1749-88; 1750-11; 1750-22; and 1750-44. Cut out on drawn lines.
Trace the heart twice, cut out loosely and fuse to the wrong side of 1749-88. Cut out on drawn lines.
Set all appliqués aside.
Sewing the PinwheelsReferring to the project image, place the squares of each Pinwheel right sides together with the lighter fabric square on top. On the wrong side of the lighter fabric squares draw a diagonal line. Be sure to match the sides and corners of the squares carefully. Sew ¼" on both sides of the diagonal line. Cut apart on the drawn line and press the seam toward the darker fabric (Dia. A). Repeat for all half-square triangles (hst). Square up each hst to measure 5".
Lay out the hst as shown. Sew together to make two halves of the Pinwheel block and press the seam toward the darker fabric. Sew halves together and press seam open to make a 9 ½" unfinished block (Dia. B). Repeat for all 10 blocks.
Fuse spiral appliqués to the center of Pinwheels and sew with your choice of thread color and stitch.
Use the project photo to lay out two rows of five Pinwheels each (Dia. C). Sew Pinwheels together to make the top and bottom Pinwheel rows.

Sewing the Panel, Borders and StripsTrim the panel to measure 24 ½" x 41 ½", centering the design. Sew the black and white zebra print strips to both short ends of the panel (Dia. D). Press toward the panel.
Sew the three 3 ½" x 42" yellow strips together end to end and cut two pieces 3 ½" x 45 ½". On one yellow strip, center the words “Wild Thing" and fuse in place. Fuse a red heart at each end of the words. On the second yellow strip, center and evenly space the remaining words, “You Make My Heart Sing.” Fuse in place. Stitch around letters and hearts to attach.
Sew the yellow strips to the long sides of the panel (Dia. E). Press toward the strips.
Sew Pinwheel rows to the top and bottom of the quilt top. Press seams toward the panel (Dia. F). Press quilt top well. Finished quilt top should measure 45 ½" x 48 ½".
Finishing the QuiltSew binding strips together with diagonal seams to make a continuous length. Press seams open. Press binding in half lengthwise with wrong sides together.
Remove selvages from the backing fabric and cut in half to make two 54" x 42" pieces. Sew together along the 42" sides with a ½" seam allowance and press the seam open.
Layer backing with the wrong side up, batting, and quilt top with the right side up. Baste layers together and quilt as you prefer. Trim batting and backing even with the top. Align raw edges and sew the binding to the front side of the quilt. Fold the binding to the back and stitch in place.
Finished care: Wash in cold water. Tumble dry on low heat or lay flat to dry.
