Happy March, Everyone! Tuesday, March 20th marks the Vernal Equinox (or the First Day of Spring). It has been a long, cold winter and we are all excitedly thinking about the warmer days ahead. Our plans for the Wild Rose Community Garden and Outdoor Classroom are really beginning to take shape. Thanks so much to all of the parents and community members who have volunteered to be a part of this huge and exciting undertaking. If you (or someone in the Wild Rose Community) wants to be involved but hasn’t yet put their name forward, please contact me and let me know. There are a number of ways people can share their talents and help out – from donating plants, trees and shrubs, to helping dig flower beds, building raised garden beds and activity areas within the space, writing grant proposals, and volun-teering to help with the summer holiday watering schedule. This beautiful green space is being creat-ed for and by the Wild Rose COMMUNITY – it will be a space where people can come to learn and play, as well as to connect with family, friends and neighbours. Please don’t hesitate to contact me directly to find out more; we need your help. March 23 is Term 2 Report Card day. Yes, we did our Parent-Teacher-Student interviews BEFORE re-

port cards. Please remember that our report cards, interviews, meetings, agendas, phone calls and emails all make up a part of our integrated Reporting System. It is incredibly important to us that we share information with you regarding your child’s progress and learning – if you ever have any ques-tions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us; we would love to set up a time to meet. March will be filled with more amazing events and activities – please make sure to check out our March calendar, and add the dates to your family calendar (mine is on my fridge!). Do you love to cook? Possibly interested in the occasional catering booking? Or know of someone who would be? Periodically throughout the school year, the Wild Rose School staff hires people to prepare lunch or supper and deliver it to the school. Please let Mrs. Schutte or myself know if you are interested! Have a wonderful Spring!

Kindergarten: Mrs. Klaassen Thank you to everyone who was able to make it out to parent teacher interviews! It is always a pleasure to be able to con-nect with families to reflect on student learning. If you were unable to make it in on interview night, we would love to be able to find another time that will work for you. We will continue to send home literacy kits as they are returned to school. Please take whatever time you deem necessary to complete the fun learning activities with your child and we will be happy to send new ones home as they come back to school. Our students have been showing an increasing interest in writing and I would encourage you to continue fostering this excitement at home by having your child create lists and other writing using “kid writing” and copying words that they see around them. We will be continuing to add to the letter sounds we are learning at school, be sure to keep an eye on your child’s green bag as I will be sending home the next set of letter sounds that can be reinforced at home in the near future. Please keep a close eye on the school calendar as we will be having a PLC Day on March 12th which will slightly alter the kindergarten schedule.

Grade One/ Two: Ms. Gunderson

In like a lion, out like a lamb! OR in like a lamb and out like a lion??? Whatever it is that March brings to us, I’m ready for it! I hope every-one enjoyed their February break and is ready to hit the ground run-ning for the next 4 weeks – YES! Only 4 weeks until our last break of this school year! I know that the 1/2 class is doing well already back into the swing of things. We are going to be tying up some loose ends and embracing some new beginnings as spring approaches. This month we look forward to the winter breakfast - a walkathon incen-tive, the fun fair – a Telemiracle fundraiser, and a fun day for the K-4 students while the “big kids” head out skiing! I’m looking forward to a fun-filled March and some, hopefully, much warmer weather!

Grade Three/Four: Ms. Young February was another busy month for the Grade 3/4 classroom. Students continued to work on their personal narrative about a favourite winter moment and are close to begin the publishing stage. As soon finish the publishing stage the students will be reading their story to you and it will be posted on Seesaw. Students have also been researching where they come from and will now be presenting who they are in a way they choose to present the information. Some students have decided to bake something for the class, create a restaurant menu, family trees, create a diorama, write a letter from the past, create a comic book or use Lego to represent the past. Students have had some many wonderful ideas and once the project is com-pleted our class will post this on Seesaw too. As we look into March we will begin looking at the Government System in Social Studies, Rocks and Minerals in Science and will begin a Book in a Box book report towards the end of March. Once again if you have any questions or concerns or still haven’t signed up for Seesaw please contact me at the school or through email, [email protected].

Grade Five/Six: Miss Roth

Hello, I can’t believe it is already March! We get to go to Wapiti this month, yippee! J In Social Studies, we are starting a new topic on Canadian Industries. In Art, we are researching Christi Belcourt and will start a beautiful piece of art very soon!! In ELA, the grade 6’s are learning all about Myths, Legends, and Hereos! In math, the grade 5’s are all finished the number strand in math and have started patterning! I am so im-pressed by the hard work that I see daily, I am so lucky to share my classroom with such wonderful human beings. Have a happy March!

Grade Seven/Eight: Mr. Mackie The ⅞ class is energized from the February break and is ready to move into March. In February the students presented their Genius Hour projects to each other and will start new projects or expand on their current projects this month. With the new month we hope for some new weather. It seems like the cold weather has trapped us inside the school for the past month and we are ready to get back outside. With the completion of basketball season last month brings us the start of badminton season. Badminton games will be on Thursdays after school and practices will be held during lunch hours. If you have any questions about badminton please contact me. Have a great month!

Our Book Fair was a huge success, we have ordered 250 new books for our Reading Room. They have already arrived and it is exciting to see the new modern titles. Thank you again for sup-porting the reading adventures of our students. Please feel free to drop in and pick our a great new title for your own enjoyment. Story Time is in the library Tuesday mornings from 9:00—10:00.

Congratulations to the men’s and ladies’ basketball teams for a fantastic season!! The 6/7/8 ladies team played a tough game against Meath Park in our first and only play-off game – however, the Wild Rose girls’ hard work did not go unnoticed! The 6/7 boys team also had a wonderful season! Their hard work and dedication paid off and the boys brought home a SILVER medal after being defeated for the FIRST and ONLY time this season against Arthur Pechey!! Way to go guys!! I also want to send a HUGE SHOUT OUT to our VOLUNTEER COACH, JAMIE PEAKE!!! Thank you again, Jamie for the

excellent work you did with all of our players, in ALL your “spare

Grade ½ - The past month we have had so much fun learning about shapes. We have been exploring where in the world we see shapes, the different kinds of shapes and the difference between 2d shapes and 3d shapes. We have made shapes using plastecine, and we also did a project building using toothpicks and marshmallows! In March our next focus is going to be back to the number strand, where we are going to explore and learn all about subtraction! Math ¾ - Throughout February, the grade 3s were exploring increasing and decreasing patterns, and the grade 4s were looking at a variety of different measurement strategies. These measurement strategies included telling time on a digital and analog clock, telling time with calendars, and exploring area of shapes. Beginning in March we are going to turn our focus back to the numbers strand, where both groups are going to begin looking at and understanding fractions! Math 6/7/8 – Throughout grades 6,7 and 8 we are continuing to work on Blended Math which focuses on the number strand. The outcomes that are being achieved by the students is amazing! They are setting fantastic goals
