Creating!a!New!Space!

Create!the!space!To!create!a!new!space,!click!on!Create!a!space!in!the!utilities!area.!

!Begin!by!entering!the!name!for!your!space.!This!could!be!“ITS!Training!Services”!or!“Adobe!Applications!Working!Group”,!or!any!other!title!that!reflects!the!purpose!of!the!space.!

Next,!you!can!enter!a!space!key.!This!is!a!short!of!abbreviated!version!of!your!space!name.!

Wikispaces!allows!you!to!customize!who!can!view!and!comment!on!your!content,!and!who!can!contribute!to!your!content.!By!default,!you,!as!the!space!owner,!are!default!in!both!groups.!Also!by!default!everyone!in!the!faculty/staff!group!are!in!both!groups.!This!makes!it!easier!to!share!the!space!with!colleagues!and!begin!allowing!them!to!contribute!to!the!space.!

Choosing!a!theme!The!next!section!of!this!screen!allows!you!to!choose!a!basic!theme!for!your!Wikispace.!You!can!choose!from!the!default!theme,!a!left!column!theme!or!a!clickr!based!theme!(based!on!Flickr).!To!choose,!click!the!round!radio!button!next!to!the!name!of!the!theme.!

!Click!the!Save!button!to!set!your!preferences!and!open!your!spaces’!home!page.!

!You!can!easily!change!to!another!theme!by!going!to!Browse!Space!>!Space!admin!>!Themes!and!selecting!another!theme.!The!wikispace!will!be!reconfigured!with!your!new!theme!instantly.!

Browse!Space!From!the!home!page,!you!can!begin!configuring!your!space.!From!the!menu,!select!Browse!Space.!A!drop!down!menu!of!available!options!appears.!

The!space!administration!options!open.!There!are!4!areas!of!administration:!space!operations,!security,!mail,!and!look!and!feel.!

!The!security!options!allow!you!to!set!permissions!for!users!and!groups,!as!well!as!allowing!you!to!set!permissions!for!individual!pages.!!

As!the!space!creator,!you!have!full!access!to!the!space.!The!third!general!group!is!for!those!using!anonymous!access.!By!default,!all!options!are!closed!to!anonymous!users.!Note:!At!this!time,!only!those!who!are!in!the!faculty/staff!group!can!gain!access!to!Wikispaces.!Students!and!Friends!of!Penn!State!accounts!cannot!gain!access!to!Wikispaces.!

To!edit!permissions!for!a!particular!group,!click!Edit!permissions.!Each!of!the!three!sections!will!open!for!editing.!You!can!add!predefined!groups!and!individual!users!who!are!members!of!the!faculty/staff!list.!!

To!add!permissions,!simply!check!the!box!for!the!permission!you!wish!to!grant.!To!revoke!a!permission,!uncheck!the!box.!

To!add!groups,!you!can!enter!the!exact!group!name,!or!click!on!the! !icon!to!search!for!the!group.!This!will!open!a!secondary!window!from!which!you!can!either!scroll!and!look!for!the!group,!or!use!the!search!function!to!look!for!the!group.!

!As!you!find!groups!that!you!want!to!add,!click!the!checkbox!to!the!left!of!the!group!name.!Once!you!have!selected!all!of!the!groups!that!you!want!to!grant!permission!to,!click!on!Select!Group(s)!!

To!see!what!pages!have!restrictions!applied!to!them,!from!the!main!menu!select!Browse!Space!>!Space!Admin!>!Restricted!pages!(under!Security).!This!will!display!a!list!of!all!pages!that!have!restrictions!on!them,!showing!the!permitted!user!or!group!for!each!type!of!restriction,!the!page!creator!and!the!creation!date.!

To!remove!the!restriction!from!the!page!for!a!selected!user,!click!on!the!lock!icon!under!Operations.!This!will!remove!the!restrictions!for!that!user.!Caution:!If!you!remove!the!restriction!for!the!page!creator,!but!not!for!anyone!else,!the!page!creator!will!be!locked!out!of!viewing!the!page.!In!this!case,!all!page!restrictions!would!need!to!be!removed!in!order!for!the!page!creator!to!regain!access!to!viewing!and/or!editing!the!page.!

Editing!Space!Details!

Even!though!you!have!created!the!space,!you!can!edit!or!modify!the!space!details!at!any!time.!To!do!so!select!Browse!Space!>!Space!Admin.!Under!the!Space!Operations!menu,!select!Edit!Space!Details.!

You!can!change!the!space!name!if!needed,!as!well!as!adding!or!editing!the!space!description.!Note!that!change!the!space!name!will!not!change!the!space!URL.!

If!you!have!renamed!the!home!page,!or!if!you!wish!the!space!to!initially!open!to!another!page,!you!can!select!that!page!from!the!drop"down!menu!next!to!Home!Page.!A!list!of!available!pages!is!displayed.!

To!save!your!changes,!click!on!Save.!

Editing!Space!Labels!

Labels!allow!for!linking!between!spaces,!and!for!quicker,!more!optimized!searching!of!all!Wikispaces,!based!on!certain!words!or!terms.!To!create!a!label!that!allows!you!to!group!this!content!with!other!Wikispaces!content,!add!the!label!to!the!left!hand!box.!To!create!group!based!labels!that!can!be!used!to!group!together!related!spaces,!use!the!right!hand!box.!

Removing/Deleting!the!Space!

To!remove!or!delete!a!space,!select!Remove!Space.!You!will!be!asked!to!confirm!that!you!wish!to!remove!the!space.!Remember,!this!action!cannot!be!undone.!

Trash!

All!materials!that!have!been!deleted!from!the!space!(but!not!the!space!itself)!are!listed!in!the!trash.!You!can!selectively!purge!the!pages!you!don‘t!want!to!keep,!or!you!can!restore!them.!You!also!have!the!option!to!purge!the!entire!contents!of!your!trash!bin.!Again,!remember!that!this!action!cannot!be!undone,!once!the!items!have!been!purged.!

!Note:!When!pages!are!removed!from!the!wikispace!and!placed!into!the!trash,!any!links!to!them!are!broken.!If!they!are!linked!via!hypertext,!the!hypertext!link!will!still!exist,!but!a!green!plus!sign!will!appear!next!to!the!link,!indicating!that!the!page!does!not!exist.!If!the!page!is!restored!from!the!trash,!the!link!will!also!be!restored,!and!the!green!plus!sign!will!be!removed.!

Editing!the!Color!Scheme!

!You!can!edit!or!adjust!colors!in!the!color!scheme!for!the!space.!By!default,!the!Global!Color!Scheme!is!selected.!To!create!and!edit!a!custom!color!scheme,!click!on!Select.!

!To!edit!colors,!click!on!EDIT.!

!To!adjust!any!of!the!colors,!you!can!enter!the!hexadecimal!code!in!the!box!provided,!or!you!can!click!on!the!color!selector!button!to!the!right!of!the!hexadecimal!box!to!open!a!color!picker.!To!set!the!new!colors,!click!on!Save.!To!revert!to!the!default!color!scheme,!click!on!EDIT!>!Reset.!

Changing!the!space!logo!

If!you!have!a!custom!logo!that!you!want!to!use!for!this!space,!you!can!upload!and!use!it.!Browse!for!the!file,!then!click!Upload!Logo.!The!image!file!that!you!upload!will!be!displayed!in!the!upper"left!corner!of!the!space.!To!toggle!the!logo!on!and!off,!use!the!logo!visibility!button:!

!Wikispaces!does!give!you!the!ability!to!reset!the!space!logo!to!the!default!logo!(the!Penn!State!1855!shield!in!most!cases).!

Adding!a!Gliffy!diagram!!

From!the!Add!Content!menu,!select!Add!Diagram.!The!New!Gliffy!Diagram!window!will!open.!Begin!by!entering!a!name!for!the!diagram.!Normally,!this!would!be!something!descriptive!of!the!contents!of!the!diagram,!and!should!be!fairly!brief.!

Select!the!size!of!the!diagram!from!the!drop!down.!You!can!add!the!diagram!at!full!size,!medium,!small,!or!as!a!thumbnail.!The!default!is!full!size.!

Choose!the!horizontal!alignment!for!the!diagram.!You!can!place!the!diagram!on!the!left,!center!or!right!of!the!page!or!news!item.!

Lastly,!select!where!vertically!you!want!the!diagram!to!appear!–!either!at!the!top!or!bottom!of!the!page.!Click!Create!Diagram.!

The!dialog!box!opens!to!create!a!new!Gliffy!diagram.!

When!you!have!finished!creating!your!diagram,!select!Back!to!Confluence!at!the!top!of!the!dialog!box.!
