A marriage ceremony is very similar, whether it is held in church, register office or approved premises. It is a public declaration of your love and commitment to each other, giving you a new legal status as husband and wife and also the stability in which your relationship can grow.

The first thing you need to decide is where and when you would like your marriage to take place.

A civil ceremony can take place in any register office or approved premises in England and Wales, which must be conducted by a Superintendent Registrar, The law requires that a civil ceremony must have no religious content, this applies to both music and spoken words.

To marry in a church or other religious building, at least one of the parties to be married should reside within the district where the marriage is to take place. However there are exceptions to this and your local Superintendent Registrar will be happy to advise you.
