Wicomico Public Libraries’ (WPL) Board of Trustees is seeking a new Execuve Director to lead the Library System, build on valued partnerships, and to connue to develop the library’s potenal to educate, empower and enrich the lives of people in this community. The Execuve Director will have demonstrated talent in building and maintaining partnerships and connecons among all stakeholders in the County and region. Providing quality service to the area’s over one hundred thousand residents and the addional students and employees who spend part of their me within Wicomico County will be of utmost priority. Governed by an eleven-member board, WPL serves the area through 3 locaons, a bookmobile and an outreach van. The ideal Execuve Director will bring passion, innovaon and an ability to culvate and maintain a diverse set of organizaonal partners. Wicomico County is a growing community located on Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore, where you are only 35 minutes from Ocean City and 2 hours from D.C., Balmore and Philadelphia. Home to over 1,500 acres of parks and trails, visitors can hike, bike, play, relax and explore the area’s natural beauty. The Wicomico and Nancoke rivers course through the County, emp- tying into the Chesapeake Bay, and dozens of other creeks, streams, inlets and marshes provide visitors with over 1,000 miles of waterways to explore and enjoy fishing, crabbing, clamming, boang, paddling and exploring. Recognized as a best community for Music Educaon, Wicomico County Public Schools provides quality educaon to over 14,500 students. With opportunies for not only advanced placement and honors programs, but dual enrollment in WorWic Community College, students can get started on college preparaons that count for both high school and college credit. Salisbury University, a regionally accredited four-year instuon offers 58 graduate and undergraduate programs. Home to the Naonal Champion SeaGulls men’s lacrosse team, the college provides a wealth of fine arts programs, sporng events, and community resources. In combinaon with an acve and growing fine arts community, Wicomico County provides mulple opportunies to discover and explore both visual and performing arts. Wicomico is home to many naonally and internaonally recognized businesses such as Perdue Farms and Cadista Pharmaceucals. The second largest port and the second largest airport in Maryland are both in Wicomico County. Salisbury, the County Seat, is the fastest growing city in Maryland. Considered the economic capital of the Eastern Shore, the job market connues to grow. Salisbury is also the home the MLB Orioles farm team, the Delmarva Shorebirds, and the Naonal Folk Fesval for 2018-2020. RESPONSIBILITIES The Execuve Director, reporng to the Board of Trustees, oversees an award-winning library system. This posion provides overall strategic and operaonal leadership with full responsibility for, but not limited to, the following areas: personnel and fiscal management including budget creaon and oversight; markeng and communicaons; fundraising and development; emergent technologies; facilies; and external partnership development through engagement with key stakeholder groups. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum qualificaons include a Masters’ Degree in Library/Informaon Science from an ALA-accredited program and five years of management experience in a medium to large library organizaon. Maryland State Cerficaon as a Professional Public Library Director or the ability to acquire this cerficaon within 6 months is required. (see WPL’s website for links on this cerficaon) Addional skills include polical acumen, strong commu- nicaon skills, ability to think and plan strategically, the ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders and demonstrated ability in fiscal management. Experience in a public library with diverse service areas, mulple loca- ons, reporng to a governing board, and building new facilies highly desired. Residency in Wicomico County is expected upon acceptance of posion. COMPENSATION The starng salary range is $72,000 - $86,000 (dependent upon experience and qualificaons) with an aracve benefits package.
