The Wicklow Way

Irelands First National Way Marked Route – Established in 1980

131km – Starting in Marlay Park in Dublin and Finishes in

Clonegal in Carlow

The Way forms part of European walking route E8 which

stretches from the Atlantic coast of County Cork to Istanbul in

Turkey.

The Wicklow Way crosses lands owned by Coillte, Wicklow

County Council, National Parks and Wildlife Service and over 50

private landowners.

Carry out consultation with the partners, relevant stakeholders and trail

users

Research and identify best practice in trail inspections internationally

Identify gaps in inspection processes currently

From the Study

Develop a template to be used for the inspection of all trails in Co.

Wicklow

System needs to be simple, eliminate/reduce subjectivity and have a

proper system of follow-up of corrective measures

(Paper, web based, mobile, etc)
