Anna Jones is ROCKIN’ IT! She is respectful, attentive, and helpful towards peers and teach- ers. I appreciate her helpfulness and thoughtful- ness - never complaining about the small stuff and taking on the role as “ POPCORN” popper…

100% to a task. - Mrs. Wilson

Lucky 7s Team 7th grade Language Arts classes are currently studying the topic Integrity (Unit 3). This unit challenges students to investigate the concept of integrity through the reading of a variety of literature and informational texts. The Close Reading selection, “The Scholarship Jacket” by Marta Salinas prompts students to dive deeply into fiction while also looking for examples of integrity. Students will have multiple opportunities to respond through writing, listening and speaking. At the end of the unit, students will determine if acting with integrity is worth the challenge and research to find evidence and examples to cite.

Sizzlin’ Sixlets ELA

Our final unit for this semester challenges students to consider ways to analyze and respond to fairness/unfairness. Sometimes there are misconceptions about fairness. Students will read “Naudia the Willful” and “Eleven” to support understanding of fairness and will find and write examples that would support an argumentative es-say. These stories will help students examine responses to fairness, or lack thereof, in different situations. As always, please look for your student’s reading log and en-sure that he or she is reaching 120 minutes a week!

Ms. Richardson and Mrs. Pfannenstiel

Math

A huge shout out to our sixth grade math students who worked diligently throughout our unit on equations! Stu-dents became proficient in solving one-step equations and representing inequalities on a number line. They learned to use tables and graphs to represent and find solutions to two-variable equations. Finally, students were challenged to write and solve equations after reading real-world scenarios.

For the remainder of the semester, students will be working with rational numbers with a strong focus on the connection between fractions and decimals. Students will learn to represent both positive and negative rational numbers on a number line and compare rational numbers (fractions to fractions, decimals to decimals, and frac-tions to decimals). We will end the semester with a focus on fraction computation.

We are so proud of all the hard work and progress we continue to see in our 6th grade mathematicians!

Mrs. Bajaj and Mrs. Verbeckmoes

Missy Congdon—As the leader of the Attendance Work Group at Robinson, Missy has taken the lead to re-search, implement and launch the Start On Time program at Robinson this school year. Her extra efforts to make the program a success have been culture changing at our school and have decreased tardies to class dra-matically. Well done, Ms. Congdon!

Brian Owens—In addition to being a positive presence in classrooms, Brian is a regular supporter of all Robin-

son students at extracurricular events. He also volunteers as a leader of young men at lunch time through Wyldlife and mentors individual students. Brian is indeed a good apple!

Amanda Walden—Nurse Amanda is amazing. She works tirelessly to ensure the students and staff at Robin-son are well cared for. Whether it’s a broken arm, an asthma attack, or dispensing daily medications, Nurse Amanda handles her hectic schedule with grace and compassion. We love having her at Robinson!

BAND What a great concert!! Thanks to all parents who are continuing to support their student’s music education. All bands are back in the books to continue learning new notes, new techniques and new terms. 8th grade band students will be working on music for a recruiting concert for incoming 5th grade students. Basketball pep band starts soon! We will provide a pep band for 4 of our home games (Jan 18, Jan 30, Feb 13, Feb 23) 8th grade students are required to perform at 2 of the 4 for their perfor-mance grade ; 7th grade students may sign up to be a part of the pep band, but are expected to perform at all 4 for extra credit. Looking for gift ideas for your band student? Now would be a good time to shop for that flute, clarinet, trumpet or trombone if your 6th grade student is renting a school instrument. Those school instruments are only available to rent the 6th grade year. Here are a few other suggestions. Woodwinds Brass Percussion All *Reeds *Valve oil *Yarn mallets *Wire folding stand *Cork Grease *Slide grease *Stick bag *Metronome * New Swab * Metal straight mute *Snare sticks *Tuner *Upgrade ligature *Upgrade mouth- (Rovner brand) piece (ask Mrs. Sweet) *Upgrade mouthpiece Clarinets – Vandoren 5RV Lyre

More than $8,000 was raised to help fund projects at school.

PAGE 20 Update for the Robinson Foundation for Educational Excellence

BLEACHER BUCKS Fundraising Campaign Kicks-Off this Month! The Robinson Foundation is excited to announce a new endeavor – Robinson is receiving its new gymnasium/FEMA shelter-much needed and long desired. To make this gymnasium even better, The Robinson Foundation is starting a “Bleacher Bucks” fundraising campaign. The funds raised through this effort will provide bleachers to seat 250 students in the new gymnasium. This project has been long in coming for Robinson, and we hope you are ready to help make it a reality! To contribute to the Bleacher Bucks Program, we have created opportunities for individuals, families or businesses to be participate in this campaign. Watch your mail for a letter explaining how you can financially contribute to this endeavor and become a part of Robinson’s Building Pride!

Thank you for dining at Chick-fil-A night in October! The Foundation greatly appreciates your support!

In November, the Foundation Board allocated funds to the Build-A-Book for Ancient Civilizations project covered in 6th grade. The supplies funded will help students with their project as they use writing prompts with a student selected character through each civilization. Students scrapbook, illustrate and type up each chapter. Above are pictures of the Robinson 6th grade students learning about the election process. The foundation provided funds to purchase the Election 2016 Skills Book that is filled with age-appropriate election materials.
