DO WE GIVE?WHY

HOW CANI HELP?

JCHS Appeal 2016 V2.indd 1 8/11/16 9:28 AM

TUITION ASSISTANCEThe need for tuition assistance continues to climb, with more students than ever applying for financial assistance. Approximately one-third of our local student population is in need of financial assistance to attend JCHS, and this past school year, more than $200,000 was distributed to families who desired a Catholic education for their children. As a diocesan high school, we are solely funded through tuition and donations as JCHS is not directly subsidized by parishes or the diocese.

WHO

ACTION PLANS BASED ON THE 2015 STRATEGIC PLAN:The five-year strategic plan was finalized in May 2015 after a year of hard work by stakeholders, employees, and community members. Now the school is moving forward with the goals and objectives that have been approved. These ambitious action plans include renovating the school, adding additional security elements, upgrading curriculum initiatives, and much more.

Nearly $250,000 was raised this school year through the campaign, including donations made to memorial funds, the athletic department, specific wish list items, and unrestricted gifts. Thanks to the support of our community, alumni, parents, and friends of JCHS, these funds were allocated to the wishes of the donors, and helped to make the following dreams a reality:

A SCHOOL BUS:JCHS has an aging fleet of buses, and we are trying to replace them systematically to ensure the safety of our students. We need to at least purchase a newer bus for the 2016 – 2017 school year. The buses are used to transport students to our Habitat for Humanity construction sites, to and from campus in the morning and afternoon, to athletics events, on field trips, etc.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS:Currently, JCHS offers 18 AP classes and is proud to be the only school in the four-county area to participate in the AP Capstone Program. Providing professional development opportunities for teachers is allowing our faculty and staff to broaden the scope of classes that are offered to students, better equipping them for college.

The annual giving campaign is a coordinated effort by JCHS to raise funds that best serve its current and future students. The funds support a myriad of programs and help balance the operating budget. The generosity of our alumni, parents, employees, community members, and stakeholders supplements the costs of academic and extracurricular programs, provides tuition assistance for students, attracts and retains excellent teachers, fulfills the wish lists of the faculty and staff, and much more.

UPGRADING FENCING AND SECURITY MEASURES OF THE SCHOOL:JCHS plans to expand the fencing around the campus in the upcoming year, as well as add automatic gates to the front entrance. We continue to strive to place our students in the most secure and safest environment possible. We feel one way we can improve upon the safety of our school is by providing a larger fence around the perimeter of the school. This will prevent guests from entering the campus in locations other than the designated areas.

COSMETIC UPDATES TO THE 300 BUILDING:JCHS looks forward to refurbishing and rebuilding the campus over the next several years. The first step to this process is working on some cosmetic updates in our 300 building. This building includes three classrooms, two offices, and lockers. It needs new flooring, a new ceiling, and paint. This is another way we plan to make our campus a more beautiful place for our students.
