By focusing on areas such as resource management, building automation, lighting control and more, a typical complex AV system can benefit measurably from Green AV and energy-saving practices.

According to research developed by BOMA and Cisco Systems, more than 70% of electricity consumed in the U.S. is used in office buildings, and lighting and office equipment account for almost 46% of an office building’s energy use. While it was not always the case, there’s no longer any doubt that the energy consumption of audiovisual and related facilities should be included in any effort to save energy in non-residential buildings.

This checklist offers 20 practical, useful tips showing you how to start saving energy and money with your AV system right now. These smart system control recommendations let you save whether you’ve got a new or existing installation.

But remember, these are not “one-size-fits-all” answers. Just as every installation is a custom project, every Green AV measure requires you to make informed choices that are right for your organization — sometimes involving trade-offs. Any energy saving measure could impact the overall performance of your AV system. For example, if a component has a long warm-up time, then increased power down times might result in more and longer waiting periods for system availability.
