Why The Power House?

We chose to build the solar house for these reasons:

1. To create a sustainable house to be an example of how individuals can live sustainably.

2. To show that a house can be created relying solely on renewable resources of energy and can be as luxurious as any other house

3. To demonstrate to the community what we have learned about energy efficiency through real-world applications.

The Horrifying Truth

Just think, when you plug in your IPod, Laptop, or T.V., you automatically use coal or non-renewable energy source. But if you buy a solar panel, your saving the planet!! Even though they cost more money than your monthly bill, they eventually make YOU money!

The skyrocketing usage of oil.

24% of our en-ergy comes from natural gas.

39% of our en-ergy comes from petroleum.

32% of our energy comes from coal.

6% of our energy comes from renew-able energy.

Graph composed based on data from the NEED project.

8% of our energy comes from nuclear energy.

Look! Our energy uses are not good for the environment.

Just About How Much Energy Is The Solar House Using?

The energy we use comes only from the sun, we don’t use a wall plug, or petroleum, or even coal! Some people may ask, “Well, if its such a solar house, then why aren't you using all new and efficient materials to build?” Because, we are trying to prove that you can make a solar home out of an existing house, and that you can save money!

Incandescent vs. LED

LED bulbs can last for over 60,000 Hours.

Incandescent bulbs can only last for 1,000 hours.

The average household spends about $213 per year on Incandescent bulbs.

● The average household spends about $42 per year on LED bulbs.

By switching bulbs you will be saving $171 per year.

Without Solar Panels…..

Orange county would spend $2,719,200 The solar house would spend $3.24 An average house would spend $122.40 HMS would spend $26,400

With solar panels it would all be FREE!
