2017-18 ANTARCTICA VENTURES BY SEABOURNTM EXCURSIONS PROGRAM:

KAYAKING, SEABOURN QUEST, YANKEE HARBOR, ANTARCTICAGENTOO CHICKS, WATERBOAT POINT, ANTARCTICA

SHORE EXCURSIONS AND SEABOURN JOURNEYS:

TORRES DEL PAINE, NATIONAL PARK* (PUNTA ARENAS, CHILE):

This excursion starts with a 1 hour flight to Puerto Natales. Upon landing, travel by motor coach over the pampas drive to Torres del Paine National Park, where you will catch your first glimpse of the distinct peaks (torres) from which the area takes its name. The park, established in 1959 and now a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, centers around an alpine massif of three granite towers reaching more than 10,000 feet, and a variety of glaciers, lakes, and wild rivers. Your drive offers incredible vistas, including Lago Sarmiento and the intensely blue Laguna Amarga. Across Nordenskjold Lake, you will view the famous jagged spires whose image is synonymous with Chile—a fabulous photo opportunity. Lunch is included before heading back for your return flight to Punta Arenas.

ELUSIVE & EXCLUSIVE: ROCKHOPPER PENGUINS (PORT STANLEY, FALKLAND ISLANDS/ISLAS MALVINAS):

Visitors to the Malvinas/Falklands have the chance to view these amazing, comedic creatures that are rarely found in other locations. You’ll travel by minibus and take in the main sights of Stanley, then change to 4x4 transportation at Murrell Farm. From here, an experienced overland driver will navigate the terrain en route to the rockhopper penguin colony (population approximately 400) where wardens will be on hand to offer information and assistance. This is a unique opportunity to take once-in-a-lifetime photographs and experience the joy these penguins naturally and effortlessly bring to any audience.

KING PENGUINS 4x4 ADVENTURE (PORT STANLEY, FALKLAND ISLANDS/ISLAS MALVINAS):

Volunteer Point is home to the largest colony of king penguins in the world outside of South Georgia. In addition, there are about 1,000 Gentoo penguins and several thousand Magellan penguins. Most of the 2 ½ hour drive is on gravel road, while the final quarter is an adventure in itself, in a 4x4 vehicle. The king penguin colony is situated between a beautiful, white-sand beach and saltwater lagoon. There are wonderful photo opportunities as the friendly king penguins pose, dressed elegantly in their superb white, gold, yellow and black feathers. A short walk to the beach allows you to view all three species together, as they head out to sea or return to their colonies.

SOUTH POLE EXPERIENCE:

Join an optional 11-day Journey with a team of veteran explorers using the most advanced airplanes and expedition equipment. Experience many of the White Continent’s most spectacular and inaccessible sights from the comfort of the modern, ecologically operated Union Glacier Camp — exploring snowy ridges in polar vehicles, trekking and cross-country skiing along scenic trails. You’ll never forget your breathtaking ski-plane flight over the shining polar plateau, to land and join the small, intrepid band of travelers who can say they have stood at the South Pole.
