I. Mormon Books Contradict the Bible.

A. The place of Jesus’ birth.1. Bible - Bethlehem (Matthew 2:1).2. Book of Mormon - Jerusalem (Alma 7:10).

The Book of Mormon & Doctrines & Covenants

“And behold he shall be born of Mary, at Jersualem which is the land of our forefathers…” (Alma 7:10).

B. When people were first called Christians.1. Bible - At Antioch (Acts 11:26).2. Book of Mormon - In the Americas before Jesus

was born! (Alma 46:15).


“And those who did belong to the church were faithful; yea all those who were true believers in Christ took upon them, gladly, the name of Christ, or Christians as they were called, because of their belief in Christ who should come” (Alma 46:15).


C. The nature of God.1. Bible - God is Spirit (John 4:24). Spirit has no

flesh and bones (Luke 24:39).2. Doctrines & Covenants - God has flesh &

bones - the Holy Spirit does not! (130:22).


“The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s; the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit. Were it not so, the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us.” (130:22).


II. Mormon Books Contradict One Another.

A. God’s view of polygamy.1. Book of Mormon - David and

Solomon’s polygamy was an abomination. (Jacob 2:24)


“Behold, David and Solomon truly had many wives and concubines, which thing was abominable before me, saith the Lord.” (Jacob 2:24).


II. Mormon Books Contradict One Another.

A. God’s view of polygamy.1. Book of Mormon - David and

Solomon’s polygamy was an abomination. (Jacob 2:24)

2. Doctrines & Covenants - They did not sin in their polygamy. (132:38-39)


“David also received many wives and concubines, and also Solomon and Moses my servants, as also many others of my servants, from the beginning of creation until this time; and in nothing did they sin save in those things which they received not of me.” (132:38-39).


III. Mormonism Teaches Another Covenant.

A. The Book of Mormon is called “Another Testament of Jesus Christ.”

B. The Bible promised a New Covenant that replaced the Old, but not a third Covenant (or two at the same time).(Jeremiah 31:31-34; Hebrews 9:15-17; Romans 7:1-4).


IV. Mormonism Teaches Another Gospel.

A. Mormonism teaches a different church organization. (Titus 1:5-9).

B. The example of the churches of Galatia. (Galatians 3:1-3; 4:21; 5:1-4;1:6-9).


V. Mormonism Discredits the Bible.A. It claims the Bible is insufficient.

• Both disliked the religious division of their day• Both claimed to receive a special revelation

• Both were characterized as uneducated

• Both claim the Bible is from God• Both claim the Bible is flawed

where it conflicts with their own Scriptures

In this both are forced to discredit the very thing they appeal to validate their credibility!

– Would God substitute His own name?American Standard Version (1901); New King

“as a terebinth…”

– Why would God use an obsolete name?

– Would God translate something incorrectly?
