Unit 1 – Physical environment Natural Hazards • Tectonic hazards linking to earthquakes and volcanic activity • Weather hazards including tropical storms and UK weather hazards • Climate Change involving the causes, effects and management The Living World • Ecosystems including what are the characteristics of an ecosystem • Study two examples in detail, Tropical Rainforests and Hot Deserts Physical Landscapes in the UK • Rivers, how landscape features change as they travel downstream • Coasts, landscapes features formed by erosion and deposition

Unit 2 – Human interactions Urban Challenges Including the growth, pattern and challenges for urban areas in the UK and around the world. Also how can these areas be developed sustainably? Changing Economic World This involves economic development and change in the UK and around the world. How can the development gap be reduced? Resource Management How to manage resources on a global scale and in the UK. How to manage one of either Food, Water or Energy Resources.

Unit 3 – Geographical skills and issues Issue Evaluation (based on pre-release booklet) Using resources to work out what the issues are. Compare and assess the needs of different groups of people and the environment. Make and decision and justify your choices Fieldwork and Geographical Enquiry Learn how to complete field work investigations related to physical and human geography. Undertake local fieldwork (a small cost is required to cover this)

Your exams will be at the end of Year 11

Three exams 1) Living with the Physical Environment

– 1 hour and 30 minutes (worth 35%) 2) Challenges in the Human Environment – 1 hour and 30 minutes (worth 35%) 3) Geographical Applications - 1 hour and 15 minutes (worth 30%)
