Drew Lang Staff Writer The combined Westhill-Stam- ford girls’ hockey team began its inaugural season with a jamboree in Shelton on December 4. In its first ever game as a team, the girls lost to Staples 3-0. The girls had a couple of shots on goal early on but unfortunately could not man- age to find the net all game. The team then played a strong and experienced Trumbull team. Trumbull dominated most of the game and won 5-0 as the girls suf- fered their second-straight shutout loss. In its last game of the jamboree, the team played Fairfield. Westhill- Stamford came close to scoring when Stamford High senior Morgan Gulliver hit the post, but the puck did not manage to go in. Gulliver finally scored for the team, but when the buzzer sounded, the score was 4-1. “Although we lost the game, it felt great to score. To be the first one to ever score for the team was a nice moment, but we have more work to do,” Gulliver said. Despite losing all three games, head coach Kenny Smith had a posi- tive outlook on the night. “We got a chance to see what the competition this year looks like and got an idea of what we have to aim for. It was a good learning experience, everyone came away with a good understand- ing on how hard we are going to have to work to obtain that hockey ability.” With the start of the regular sea- son not far away, the girls are anxious to start playing. With this being the team’s first season ever, expectations are not set too high. “We just want to play, show what we have, and have fun,” senior Jenn Osher said. “I think we’re going to focus on getting better as a team and be- ing more cohesive,” senior Kirsten Eriksen added. Coach Smith has yet to name captains. The team will begin its regular season with a home game on December 18 against Darien. The combined Westhill-Stam-ford girls’ hockey team began its inaugural season with a jamboree in Shelton on December 4.

In its first ever game as a team, the girls lost to Staples 3-0. The girls had a couple of shots on goal early on but unfortunately could not man-age to find the net all game.

The team then played a strong and experienced Trumbull team. Trumbull dominated most of the game and won 5-0 as the girls suf-fered their second-straight shutout loss.

In its last game of the jamboree,
