The impressive skeletal structure that results is responsible for support, protection and movement of the physical body as well as other essential metabolic functions. As we tend to focus on our outer appearance and organ health, we often neglect or disregard what is happening to our bones until we have some pain, fracture or break, deformation or receive an alert warning from a medical practitioner. Red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets are produced in the bone marrow and stored there until needed by the blood or other organs. Bones are often sacrificed when there are mineral needs in the blood or essential organs. They bear our weight and the weight of whatever we choose to or are obligated to carry. They are humble, faithful servants of the body. Each bone is an organ in and of itself. Each has a specific pattern of development and growth, a distinct shape and distinct surface features that indicate its relationship to other bones, muscles and body structures. While normally having impressive density and strength due to high percentages of calcium and phosphorous, we know all too well that bones can become weak, fragile and porous (having excessive minute cavities). What causes problems? Bones are weakened by poor diet, unbalanced diet, prescription drug toxicity and emotional and physical stress. When, and this is very common in the U.S., one consumes many acid causing foods, the blood becomes Continued on Page 3

Assalaamu alaikum

Dear Readers,

The human being, as the final creation, is both aphysical and intellectual marvel.  Our bodies

are microcosms of the form and function of theentire  universe.  In  development  the  human  passesthrough the forms of all animal life; that of a watercreature  while  in  the  womb,  one  that  crawls  on  itsbelly, one that walks on all fours (crawling) and theerect  two  legged  "khalifah"  or  steward  of  the  earth.

In the Tafseer of Quran by Ibn Katheer, one of thesahaba (companions) of the Prophet (saw) said,"He  who  thinks  about  his  own  creation  will  realizethat he was created with flexible joints so that it iseasy  for  him  to  perform  acts  of  worship."  In  theSahih  (Sound)  collections  of  both  Muslim  andBukharee, the Prophet Muhammad (saw) isrecorded  as  saying,  "Each  person's  every  jointmust perform a charity every day the sun comesup  ...  a  good  word  is  charity;  every  step  you  taketo prayer is a charity; removing a harmful thingfrom  the  road  is  a  charity."

The joint is a meeting place between two bones, where cushioning has been placed and flexibilityenabled.  The greatest thing we can do as upright, flexible  creatures  is  worship  -  bending  andprostrating in humility.  After that it is to expressgratitude  and  seek  ways  to  utilize  our  physicalform in service.

Many are suffering from crippling arthritis, loss oflimbs due to diabetes or tragic injuries or otherdiseases.  Repetition of some of these losses can beprevented and some in disabled conditions can berestored.  Let us try to be more conscious when we lifta finger, bend a wrist or a knee and move from place toplace.  Make a duah for those who do not have theseabilities and thank our Creator, Lord and Evolver of allforms for the gracious gift of movement.

"In  the  human  body  about  95%  of  the  calcium  (Ca)and  90%  of  the  phosphorous  (P)  is  found  in  thebones  and  teeth."

Skeletal  Integrity  Cont'd  from Page 1dangerously acidic.  The bones sacrifice themselves andgive up their components to help stabilize the blood pHand the conditions of other essential organs.

What keeps bones healthy?Bones are primarily composed of minerals.  In the humanbody about 95% of the calcium (Ca) and 90% of thephosphorous (P) is found in the bones and teeth.  VitaminD, readily available from sunlight, assists in absorbingthese two minerals from the intestines into the bloodwhere it can be transported to bones.  So, what becomesclear is that the diet must be rich in minerals and eachindividual needs to get 15 - 20 minutes of daily sunlightwhen possible.  Fifteen minutes of exposure to sunlightcreates  about  10,000  i.u. of vitamin D in the body.  Inthe winter months, when less sunlight is available it isrecommended to take a supplement that will supply richamounts of Vitamins A and D such as Cod Liver Oil.This was a staple every winter in our home as we weregrowing up and I also gave it to my children.

Other D rich foods: egg yolk, milk, butter, sunflowerseeds and mushrooms.Calcium rich foods:  milk, most raw vegetables(especially cabbage, kale, brussel sprouts, and broccoli),sesame seeds (better source than milk), oats, almonds andnavy beansPhosphorous rich foods:  whole grains (wheat, corn,barley, etc.), seeds and nuts, legumes, fish, dried fruits,dairy foods

To keep a healthy skeletal system, eat well, keep a stressrelieving practice such as deep breathing or other exerciseroutine in your schedule, move the body in a respectful,dignified manner and practice good posture.  Whenstanding, evaluate the relationship of the head to theshoulders, shoulders to the hips, hips to the knees, andknees to the ankles.  Feel how your weight is balanced onyour feet and appreciate postural balance.  Be aware that ahealthy body is aligned and comfortable.  Be grateful tothe One Who Created.

Tribute to Brother Fredby Jeanette Hablullah, N.D. and Ayanna Miranda

We first met Br. Fred in his garden, suited in bootsand hat for the late summer heat and loose soil.  As

we drove up he was waiting, leaning on a tree, one bootedfoot propped against the trunk.  We learned his last nameonly from the Caller I.D. as he contacted us to let us knowwhat was available from the garden and to makearrangements to meet us there.

Fred Childs was a natural gardener.  He loved theearth and what it produced.  He was in awe of thebrilliance of color that came forth on the vegetables andthe abundance of what sprouted up from the seeds andsmall plants.  He said, "The garden teaches you charity.Well, it teaches me charity anyway."

Fred had farmed a plot of land leased fromBaltimore County, MD.  He had planted early springcrops, which we totally missed, summer crops and latesummer - early fall crops.  When we came into thisprocess, it was already August.  We helped pick ourbounty and enjoyed green beans, tomatoes, corn, zucchini,peppers, summer squash, beets, okra and even a fewfreshly dug potatoes.  The peanuts weren't quite ready atour last visit and he was planting collard greens and morecabbage for some he already had arrangements with.According to agreement with the county, he had to be offthe land by October 31st.

He finished his last harvest, but won't be aroundfor the next planting and he had grand plans for theSpring.  May Allah accept his good and forgive him forhis wrongs.  May Allah be merciful to him, grant him anhonored place in the paradise and cause others to comeforth with dedication to producing fresh, pure food for usthe servants of Allah remaining on the earth.  Ameen.

EID MUBARAK!May Allah bless all of our readers and theirfamilies on the occasion of Eid and throughoutthe new Islamic year.

Microwaves - Ten Reasons to Throw Them Outby Ayanna Miranda

This is a continuation of the article from the Volume 4:Issue 3 of the Newsletter.  Dr. Mercola states on his web

site information from studies conducted on the microwaveoven that  "From  the  conclusions  of  the  Swiss,  Russian,  and  German scientific  clinical  studies,  we  can  no  longer  ignore  themicrowave  oven  sitting  in  our  kitchens."Here are the first five reasons to throw out the Mircrowave:1. Continually eating food processed from a microwave

oven causes long term - permanent - brain damage by"shorting  out"  electrical  impulses  in  the  brain[depolarizing or de-magnetizing the brain tissue].

2. The human body cannot metabolize [break down]the unknown by-products created in microwaved food.

3. Male and female hormone production is shut downand/or altered by continually eating microwaved foods.

4. The effects of microwaved  food by-products areresidual [long term, permanent] within the human body.

5. Minerals, vitamins, and nutrients of all microwaved foodis reduced or altered so that the human body gets little orno benefit, or the human body absorbs alteredcompounds that cannot be broken down.
