The ‘Low Chemical resistant’ or‘Waterproof’ glove pictogram is tobe used for those gloves that donot achieve a breakthrough time ofat least 30 minutes against at leastthree chemicals from the definedlist, but which comply with thePenetration test.

The ‘Micro-organism’ pictogram is to be used when the glove conforms to at least a performance level 2 for the Penetration test.

Permeation: Each chemical tested is classified in terms of breakthrough time (performance level 0 to 6).

The ‘Chemical resistant’ glove pictogram must be accompanied by a 3-digit code. This code refers to the code letters of 3 chemicals (from a list of 12 standarddefined chemicals), for which a break-through time of at least 30 minutes has been obtained.

The rate of degradation depends on which chemical the glove has come in contact with.PENETRATION - is the flow of chemicals andmicro-organisms through the porous material,seams, small holes or other small defects inthe glove material.PERMEATION - is the process where a chemicalpasses through the glove’s material on a molecularlevel. Permeation means the following: a chemical’smolecules penetration through the outer material ofthe glove. Diffusion is the movement of moleculesthrough the material. undergo strict laundering procedures so gloves remain sterilised to meet local food handling regulations.

During the laundering cycle, cut resistant food gloves are exposed to detergents, chemicals, UV light, water and

drying temperatures impacting yarn and fibre behaviour. After multiple laundering, yarn and fibre strength are

compromised impacting cut performance and exposing workers to blade risk and injury.
