Excel Alaska provides supplementary academic and
career education activities for Jr. High/High School
students from rural Alaska.
District Partners include: • Kuspuk School District
• Lower Yukon School District
• Saint Mary’s School District
• Kashunamiut School District
• Lower Kuskokwim School District
• Yukon Koyukuk School District
EXCEL Alaska Mission Statement
EXCEL Alaska will provide high school students and young adults
with the necessary transitional skills and career exploration opportunities to be successful in our ever-changing
world. This will be accomplished through increasing each student’s
knowledge in a wide variety of areas including personal-social and career development, service training, urban familiarization, leadership, character, and life skills development. EXCEL Alaska students will transition into adulthood with a viable Personal
Learning & Career Plan, Occupational Endorsements,
National Employability Certificates and dual College Credits.

Foundational Sessions EXCEL 7: (4 days) Held in Aniak, 7th grade students practice leadership and teamwork skills.
EXCEL 8: (4 days) Held in Aniak, 8th grade students practice communication and consensus-building skills.
EXCEL 9: (6 days) Held in Anchorage, freshmen are introduced to different career pathways.
EXCEL 10: (8 days) Held in Anchorage, sophomores discover options they have after high school through tours and job shadows.
EXCEL 11: (10 days) Held in Anchorage, juniors learn career skills through a simulated corporation.
EXCEL 12: (10 days) Held in Anchorage, seniors prepare for life after high school.
EXCEL Specialty Sessions
Summer XL – Offers College Exam preparation and training in Welding, Carpentry, Process Technology, or Emergency Trauma Care in this 4-weeks summer program.
Camp Kick Ash I and II - Students can become ETT and EMT1 certified in separate 3-week intensives.
Flight School – Students prepare and take their FAA ground school exam in this 3-week intensive.
Academic Decathlon – Competition in Math, Science, Speech, Essay, Social Studies, Keyboarding, Constructive Engineering, Super Quiz and other fun academic activities.
CTE Carpentry, Welding, and Heavy Equipment Camps – Students become NCCER Core certified in these separate 2-week long camps.
Math Science Expedition – Students study real life math and science on a 10-day raft trip down the Aniak River.
Advanced Fish and Game Internship (GRI) – Students participate in a paid internship conducting field research for a 10-year longitudinal study.
Math & English High School Credit Recovery or Post Secondary Prep Session -Students have the opportunity to earn .5 high school credit in math or English as well as prepare for: Accuplacer, TABE, ASVAB, ACT exams
Internship Opportunities Seniors, who have attended one or more of the Employability sessions and are interested in the trades, have the opportunity to apply to go to Delta Junction for a 2-week Surface Mine Training that is followed with a 2-week paid internship through a Calista’s Subsidiaries.
Showing your Support EXCEL Alaska is a Non-Profit 501C3 primarily funded through Federal and State Grants. As the economy struggles, programs like EXCEL Alaska are financially hit the hardest.
